The fact they have done it doesn't bother me. Infact I expected it before now from what I saw of an ex's research.
What does bother me is the application, from here you can quite easily end up at Chimera (MI2), or specifc targeted Bio warfare.

That potential has been available for a while already. It's called DNA.

You've fallen for the "promises" haven't you? How much CO2 do you think there is in the air? And of course, if you "pull" CO2 out of the air you "pull" O2 too. We sort of need that (As well as CO2 to breathe).

Excites the hell out of me. One guy saying as important as splitting the atom.
Imagine engineering it to destroy cancer cells. Huge potential.

Yeah, post was mine, sorry my bad, trying to explain and post and work didn't work. I accept your point that DNA profile targeting has been around for some time, but would involve manipulating an existing cell, now the tech is around the corner for growing a already cultured cell for bio warfare.

"You can't control evolution.
It only takes one of these bacteria to mate with another and you have serious and posibly extinction problems.
Not a good idea."
A quote, and how the ferk is it genetically compatible for the "mating" process....
What mating process you bloody buffoon ?

In all seriousness i agree with your point, physics states that you cannot get out more than you put in, this must apply to biology aswell.
The thing i don't get is what is everyone worried about? Is it the fear that they create a virus by accident and then it escapes?
Could they use this technology to eventually create a food source? I'm sure everyone has heard of theories of cloning fish or whatever to feed the starving (like in the film the 6th day which is all about cloning) but could the same be done to feed the starving but creating a living organism that were to be eaten rather than cloning?

err...Hello? Have you not heard about the hundreds of millions of tons of co2 being released into the atmosphere every day by a single granny driving her 1.1 clio to the shops? the same co2 that is reducing our ice caps by 100 square miles a second, and raising sea levels by an inch per hour!!!!

Pandoras box! Mother Nature moves very slowly & "bad" stuff gets deleted by evolution yet something like this can happen overnight in relative terms ... I'm worried about unknown short & long term effects ![Frown](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/frown.gif)

I can't help but feel that it's fear of the unknown that's being expressed here, rather than fear of the exact technology and procedures that have been developed.
How many of you are qualified to fully understand what has been done, and are therefore able to assess what the risks are?
