Perhap's it might be better to have that bit of extra space behind the TV for putting plugs in etc.

Remember plasmas get quite hot and fixing them flush to the wall can cause overheating

My 50" Panasonic plasma doesn't seem to get that warm and that is wall mounted.
I got my mount off of ebay and the TV has been on the wall since last August and hasn't fallen down yet and that was with Swiss helping me mount it
