Default had my card skimmed, advice please.

luckily, my banks fraud dept detected it, blocked it and cancelled my card after contacting me. So no harm done.
But! I KNOW where it was done, egham shell station is the only place i used my card. I still have the receipt, so i know what time it happened and the cctv will be able to show me who did it.

Luckily i'm a couple hundred miles away atm as i would be straight down there and shoving the card skimmer up the theving ****'s ****. Then making him eat it. Then making him say yum yum

I am apocalyptically angry, i want him sacked at the very least, has anyone had any success with any garages and actually succeeded in getting one of these ******* slung out for his trouble?

Any advice would be gratefully received, i want his world to descend into a hellfire like he's never known. I want him to pay.
Astraboy.

it seems shell stations are a haven for this kind of practice. A local one near us had loads of incidents...just typical of the management

Good luck with inserting the card though

I would contact the garage, Shell UK and the local media all in the same email advising them of the situation, and inviting them all to contact you regarding weeding the theif out and dealing with the situation as a whole

did you give him the card?

I always just put in in the machine and take it out so no one else touches it or was it the actual chip they copied?

The easiest way to do it is to have a device that reads the card and then records the pin. No physical contact required although it does need someone in the store to record the data...

I certainly hope you manage to prove the bloke did the skimming and then get him convicted for it. Good luck with all that-let us know how it goes.

Happened to me at an Esso garage. I phoned esso HQ to report it and they said nowt to do with them as the petrol station was an independant franchise.

Took it no further as no funds were tken thanks to card fraud dept.

Never used garage for 6 months afterwards. Recently had to. New staff but only I use cash.

No one will lift a finger to help, at least that's my experience. I had my card taken for £1500 and I established what it was used for which included paying for overdue London congestion charges, college fees etc. Easy enough to track down one would think. But no checks were ever made - it's less hassle for card companies simply to take any losses out of the exorbitant fees they charge us.

I had mine done last year in the same Shell station as Swiss I don't use that card anywhere else because it's a work credit card that I only use for fuel and we know the date & time it was used because it was just before I went away on holiday.

I don't know why this hasn't been stopped, it was last September I got mine done and today was the first time I've filled up at a Shell garage so Shell must be losing money?

I actually complained to Shell about the garage where my card was cloned & the staff in the garage where it was discovered that my card had been stopped, I already knew the reason it was stopped because I knew what had happened at the Wycombe shell but the woman behind the counter told me it was because the bill hadn't been paid and my company were probably going bust Shell didn't care one bit and nobody ever got back to me about the Wycombe Shell station

In the case of Shell stations it is the installers that aren't installing the encryptors then they come back and harvest the data. The staff never ever touched my card.

My only guess is that they use different contractors to install the equipment

This is the conclusion that immediately jump to, but Pauls conclusion would appear to preclude this - certainly at a cashiers level.

Make EFTPOS transations at "proper" sites, like a supermarket. Pay by cash at these "petrol stations" (Hindsight I know, but..). Change you PIN frequently...and that is simple.

well it's been 24 hours and sureprise, surprise, i've had no calls from either shell or the police.

What i have found out was one of my friends had exactly the same treatment at exactly the same place on friday! I gave her my crime reference number and told her to tell the police to link our records together.

I'll give it another 24 before calling them back, then i'll refuse to put the phone down til i get what i want.

This will not go away, i refuse to let it.

SOrry to hear this matey!! But if the goverment would not of made chip and pin an every day need then ****e like this would not happen. IMO it was a bad idea moving to chip and pin. I use my Girlfriends car as she uses mine like our own no one batters an eye lid.

I all ways pay cash for every thing unless through pay pal. Keep a better track of money and you know a situation will not be like this.

hope all works out ok for you matey
