Any Economists here?
Bit of a long shot but I was wondering if any works in that field?
I am just setting up my daughters trust fund and I want a long term forecast (18 years).
I Know this is impossible to get a half accurate one as so many things can influence the economy but I am wondering if its best to invest in future markets or do a cash saving (£100 a month gets them a projected £35000 back at 18)
I am a bit worried about putting everything in a CTF as it is index linked, but I also dont know enough about future markets to risk everything in shares.
Should I just buy her a flat and rent it out for 18 years?????
Any help would be gratefully received.

I cannot give any professional advice, but if i could have chosen to have a large chunk of money, or a flat i would have gone for the flat.
I'm trying to move out now, but it is so expensive, though a large sum of money may help, to pay rent for a year, in my eyes is a waste. But to have a flat would be a great start to adult life.

As John says, Economists and forecasters have a long history of getting things right just about as much as they are wrong. There would be a good arguement to suggest that those few who have been consistently right have just been more lucky than the others.
Do what you feel is best, I'm sure she'll thank you for it in years to come whatever you do. Best to prioritise safety over speculation.

The £100 a month would be to pay a deposit loan on a flat we would put on a buy to let mortgage. I wish it was only £100 a month!!!!!
Having said that I could pick up the little beaut for £100 a month (if that)
