Hay Fever
Hit me hard yesterday for the 1st time this year.
Nose streaming, sneezing wet snot everywhere and eyes watering like I've just watched Watership Down.
Anyone else feel worse in the summer than they ever do in the winter

got me yesterday as well, must've been a polleny day. I was fookin streaming snot.
Wasn't aware there was an injection, may have to investigate - thanks for that!
I usually go to Asda for their own brand ceterizine (95p for 14) because as far as I can tell, it's identical to the branded ones, except 1/6th of the price?

If the injections are like what they used to be then its a course of injections over a few weeks and it needs to be done in March IIRC.
However, I seem to recall most GPs have stopped giving it?
There are a few better tablets out now, but its only on script.
I have been great all year so far - usually start in May and run to about July.
So far, only had a couple of bad days - I have even been riding my bike into work until the start of this week which is normally not possible after May.
Started taking CzHy about a week ago just to keep it down.
Must say if I get away with it as its been for the last few weeks it will have been a very good year.

I get hayfever ridiculously bad, from about now till the end of July.
I echo what tathan said, go to Asda and get there own brand tablets, look for the active ingredient on the packet and get both;
Cetirizine Hydrochloride and Loratadine.
I take 2 of each everyday along with a nose spray (beclometasone dipropionate) look for the non branded version of this (£2) and not the £6 Beconase which has half the amount.
Stuff from the Doctors isn't stronger, that is a myth, they are all 10mg tablets.
Acrivastine is also a good one to use along side the other two tablets, but not available as a unbranded version, so £4 for 7 tablets, it's only sold by Benadryl, but does help, me atleast, if it is a very high pollen count.

I used to take Beconase nasal spray. This really worked for me, though it does take a while before it takes it's full effect. I use the Boots own brand now. It's just as good and costs half as much

I do this with lots of medicine - they can't lie about what and how much is in it (I hope!). You see the same thing with ibuprofen - look at Nurofen and it says "Each tablet contains 200mg ibuprofen" or similar. Then look at the 24p generic ones, which are exactly the same, except £4 cheaper.

Ive only actively being doing it for a few years now and only because the woman in the local chemist told me not to bother with branded medical products.
Save a complete wedge load of money though, for the exact same product, probably made in the same factory. I spend about £32 a on hayfever stuff when its pollen season on unbranded, compared to about £80-90 in the same time frame.

I'm wondering if hayfever is getting to me now.
Recently I have had quite irritated eyes. At the moment they are sore, not really red though, most mornings I wake up and they are sleepy/gunky and they can remain gunky during the day. I have also had sort of cold like symptoms, bit bunged up and feeling like I want to sneeze but not always doing so (but even with a cold I never really get a runny nose, it's always blocked).
I've been on tablets recently and during that time I've had these feelings so just thought it was that possibly, but I'm off them now... Not that this feeling was a side effect.
When I mentioned to the doc about my eyes a few weeks ago, he prescribed cetirizine but I didn't take them partially as I worried I may feel drowsy and partly as I have never suffered from hayfever before. That said I feel quite bad today, but I have been out in the garden most of the day.
Does anyone think it's worth taking the tablets to see if they help?

Yeah. I had a bit of hayfever around my 17th year, then I had a trouble free decade and now the past couple of years it's come back. Weirdness. You can get non drowsy tablets (Loratadine as above) if you're worried.

AFAIK there is nothing stopping you from taking antihistamines for every day of the rest of your life. They don't have any long-term effects that I could find from reliable sources. Regardless of whether your cells are reacting to pollen or whatever.

Found a BRILLIANT hay-fever tip yesterday:
This saves you injections and also buying expensive sprays and pills and has no drowsy side effects. Simply glue a bee under your nose on your top lip. It will collect all that pesky pollen and the added side effect is that it will produce honey for your toast.
Mind, the tip WAS in Viz...............

Although having said that I had to start using eye drops a couple of days ago too. Grr.
I also buy non-branded generic medicine, having worked in a pharmacy there is absolutely no difference in the content, just the price. All pharmacies will stock generics, just ask

Smear a little vaseline on the inside of your nostrils. The pollen will stick to the vaseline before it gets in your nose to cause the allergic reaction.
As long as you dont get itchy eyes its totally removes all symptoms. Cheap to.

Why do some people get hay fever and not others ?

Got a friend who gets it , but hes always coughing and spluttering with the ciggies / withdrawl from the ciggies

I try a different tablet every year as it seems like my body becomes immune to it after that!
Trouble is now I get really drowsy - even with the alleged non-drowsy stuff. It's so bad that I can fall asleep at work if I wanted to and let myself get relaxed enough! Any other alternatives out there?
