Default Is anyones employer ACTUALLY letting them leave work to watch the football?

Listening to Radio 1 made me think....
Are there people out there who are finishing work to go and watch this afternoons game?

They did a 'bit' on the show where they named and shamed employers who work not allowing their staff to finish work.

Now don't get me wrong, I know to some people football is very important.
I can't help but think this is taking the micky slightly, and that people are moaning they are having to stay at work.

Anyone else had the same thought?

I can leave at 2.30, but will have to make up the hours. Or I can watch it on the 50" in a meeting room near me, and not make up the hours (and also potentially not get stabbed/glassed/bottled etc).

But yes it is taking the mick, moaning about staying at work.

I couldn't help thinking that it was mental to hear people moan about it, and that Radio 1 were presenting it as though people should be allowed the time off, just because of the game.

That's great, but do you expect to? Or would you not really be bothered?

The staff came to us and asked if they could leave an hour early today if they made up the hour beforehand this week.

No problems at all.

If you're really a fan then leaving an hour early is a bit pointless
Should have booked a half day annual leave

If England had played two excellent games and had shown true 'champion' potential, then I think employers should do their bit and try to let people leave early. But after the games played so far, my workers would have to work or not get paid, plain and simple. Everything doesn't stop just because 11 guys from our country are kicking a ball about (badly) for 90 minutes. Get real.

Been told that because our project is going well that we can watch it on the projector in the conference room. Company to supply refreshments to, whatever that entails?!?

Won't be the same without a cold pint of beer in hand though

Well I finish at 2pm and will wander down to a local pub nr work with a few mates. Not one of my team has asked me if they can take lunch at 3 to watch on the big screen in the canteen or take time off. Then again a lot of my team arent english (few scots, italians, germans and french) so dont really care

I've asked if I can go but they know my interest in football is about as much as my interest in female emotion.

One game in four years that people need time off for and employers arent giving it!

No one will want to work during that time and productivity will be minimal so whats the point in trapping people somwhere where it costs to keep them and they all want to be somewhere else?

Im off till friday but if i was at work i would do sweet **** all to make a point!

Decent employers will sort it out but if you work in retail you will have to be open for the one old giffer who wants to bring something back while the footy is on!

Its should be a national holiday!

Gheyer!

your one of those people who will still expect to be looked after when you go into a shop with no thought for the poor staff trying to listen to england lose on the radio they have sneaked in

Expect to be ignored in almost every shop in the country, and quite rightly too!

Can you not go shopping at 5.30 when you can expect at least some level of service?

NHS is different, people need looking after, but places like factories, shops etc could easily shut up shop and it wouldnt matter one bit!

Yep, mine is, though I'm off this week anyway but our manager has said that if anyone wanted to finish early they could but would have to work something out with him ie. work the remaining hours later in the week.

Quick Reply: Is anyones employer ACTUALLY letting them leave work to watch the football?
