Default Chicane - Giants - top stuff!

I am a massive Chicane fan, especially the first two albums and thought that never again would there be another album like those two.... until I got my hands on the latest effort - Giants.

It's been on non-stop today and I am pleased to report it is another masterpiece.

Music does not get much better than this. All IMHO of course.

Sure is.

As Trout says the album Far From The Maddening Crowds was a masterpiece and a major influence in the trance/ambient genre for a very long time.

Chicane is the brainchild of one Nick Bracegirdle and such is the qualty of his work mainstream artists like Bryan Adams have called on him to work with them.

Giants is a welcome return to the sound of those early albums. Loving it.

My first few listenings to chicane left me thinking it just lift music, then i suddenly 'got it' Far from the Madding Crowd is a masterpiece and timeless, always puts me in a 'good place'

Behind the Sun is also superb and contains the track saltwater which is in my top 5 tracks of all time and has the grey hairs on my neck standing to attention

only a few mins to the new album is downloaded

I'm a huuuge dance music fan in general with a side dish of ambient and have to agree Chicane is the top guy with regards this. BUT I've listened to Giants and don't really rate it in the same breath as 'Far From The Maddening Crowds' or 'Behind The Sun'. IMHO he peaked between 97-2000 with a couple glimpes of hope last year with his tracks 'Poppiholla' and 'Hiding behind The Stars', oh and his remix for FGTO 'Relax'.

For me the days of 'Offshore', 'Autumn Tactics', 'Lost You Somewhere' and 'Saltwater' are long gone

No worries, you are more into the whole dance music thing than I and probably better understand the nuances of the sub genres way better than me, but while it may not quite reach the heights of the first two offerings for me Giants is a welcome new release from the maker of two of my favourite albums ever.

The two heavily laden vocal tracks aside I think it stands up rather well to those two classic earlier releases.

While I have your attention can you recommend any artists that you feel fall into a similar genre that I may not have heard of. I have a lot of Delerium, Cafe Del Mar compilations, Robert Miles, BT, Deep Forest, Enigma ... so anything else along those lines? Thanks in advance.

Hmm, the first producers that come to mind are Lustral. Aside from the well known stuff they have released they also do some very mood orientated ambient stuff.

Lustral released 'Deaper, darker secrets' in 2007 which is well worth a listen.

Aside from that you seem to have everything that I know of really. I'm into everything you have mentioned above aside from Deep Forest which I'm not familiar with.

I have a mix on the pc which I recorded last year full of tracks from that kind of genre. Welcome to a copy if you pm me an address I can send it too. Always welcome of feedback

P.S. also try a search for '16 Bit Lolitas' aswell....

Gotta say - I've enjoyed "Giants" so far - a welcome return to what he does best. Somersault is best forgotten I think

My only complaint is that a couple of the tracks are too short.

"Giants" though is a seriously lovely track though

Thanks for that! Trance is definetly my favourite genre and the one I mix (or attempt to!) with. Been listening to it for years. Ahh the hazy memories of distant nights 'reaching for the lasers'.

Listening to Giants now as I am on a train.

It is growing on me but it will never be a Far From...

that was a revelation, a breakthrough whereas this is a coda, a good one, but still a coda.
