Default British justice - another odd one.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-10949216
Babar Ahmad, born in London, England in 1974, is the longest detained-without-trial British citizen held as part of the ‘war on terror’, having been imprisoned in the UK since August 2004. He has never been convicted of any criminal offence, but is held fighting extradition to the United States.
Under the Extradition Act 2003, the US does not have to provide any evidence before seeking the extradition of a British citizen.
Sorry about the cut and paste nature of this post - but this case has a bit of a bad smell about it IMO.

The Evidence required under the act is "Reasonable Suspicion", this is normally less than other countries which must have basically a watertight case.

I think the story here is that the US refuses to pass the evidence over to the UK. and that the evidence could perhaps be used to prosecute the case here.
We just seem to have moved a fair bit away from Habeus Corpus in this instance.
I do not know if the US has shown any evidence for reasonable suspicion - have you heard that?
As my source of information is Wiki - I must plead relative, if not complete ignorance

The previous government was trying to undermine Habeas Corpus before and I find it difficult to understand that he can be detained for this length of time. I really do not think this is right, there should be positive evidence of his involvement in such a crime and if they can't do that I think it is wrong to hold him uncharged for this length of time for being purely under suspicion. That is a dangerous path for the people. If the US want him that badly they should come out with positive evidence.
