Unhappy Here we go again..............

Just recently my car was written off by another driver. I was told that the car was a write off as the cost of repairs, added to the cost of the hire car and the storage costs made the car a CAT D write off.

My car was hit at under 30mph on the front off side.

When the accident happened i told my insurers i didnt want to take it to one of their approved garages, i wanted to take it to Honda as it was non fault and i thought i should be able to take it where i wanted.

Initially my Insurers got me a hire car for 3 days as i wasnt entitled to a courtesy car (non approved garage) then they gave me details of a company called Drive Assist. They provide you with a car and then claim the costs back from the third party. They gave me a rough looking Ford Focus.

I was told that the car needed £1400 of parts and about the same again in labour costs. They offered me nearly £7000 as a settlement. I was also informed that the cost of my hire car was around £150 a day and that they estimated that i would need it for 2 weeks and the costs of the car, over £1,500!!! made the car uneconomical to repair.

I am gutted as i have only had my Type-r for 6 months and was still in the honeymoon period

Nothing major was damaged, the door and bonnet were fine but new bonnet hinges were needed. Its basically what you can see in the pic.

Surely the costs of repair should be just that. Do all insurers add all the other costs to the repair bill? As it was non fault i assumed that they would get my car back on the road for me, regardless of the other costs...after all, it was one of their drivers that caused this to happen.

I have had to sell the car privately and will have another one this Monday but i have opened up a dispute with the insurers and need some advise from you guys.

The cost of the repairs and labour are less than half of the value of my car. I thought that if the costs were more than half then its written off.

And no, the accident wasn't my fault

I thought a car was written off is the repair bill was around 50/60% of the cars value. To be honest, would you really want a performance FWD car back as a shunt to the front? I wouldn't.

Sorry to here Sara, as it was a very nice looking motor.

You are so far off the mark. I will post the spec up in a bit, but it would eat most of the scoobs on here for breakfast.

It was a beautiful car and i feel like i am grieving. I could easily have put the car back on the road but being a CAT D means that i would have had to drop the price by 20% when i sold it on.

I sold the car as salvage within 12 hours of putting it on Pistonheads and for double the salvage value. They were biting my hand off. It had coilover suspension etc so that helped sell it i think.

Thought the CTR cost you £7000? How can it be worth double that now?

I said the repairs were less than half the value of the car.

The car was worth more depending on how you class the modifications. I was able to get a really good salvage price because the mods were on there.

I have a few spares here from the scoob so that should last me till xmas lol

I was just looking at my paper work and see that they deducted money as the car has high mileage for its age. Its 6 years old and the mileage was 68,000. I thought it was a lowish mileage as they allow 15000 a year.

Isn't the 'measured' mileage around 10K per annum - and it may be 6 years old but is that 72 months since originally purchased?

I'm lost now.

The offer was £7,000 on a car that cost you £7,000 and that the hire car cost was claimed back from the other party?
Did you not bite their hand off?

I take it you've settled for £7,000 and bought the car back as scrap and then sell it on to someone else at much more than scrap value?

If so then you must be quids up surely?

Where do you think you are loosing out?

Its proven, wimmins are better drivers. Oh, yeah, it was a man that crashed into my car and it was a male bus driver that crashed my scoob.

Rifleman, who is he?

Just to point out the TOTAL cost of the repair of your car includes your hire car, your choice to use a Honda dealership, using a 3rd party to handle the claim etc etc. Not just how much it cost to fix the car itself.

Not quite sure why you are disputing it.

You say you've sold the car - did you buy it back off the insurer?

Did you accept the £7K offer?

I assume you took the £7K, bought the car back off the insurer and then sold it on?

Tell me you haven't just sold the car before getting this sorted out with the insurer?

I lost out cos i lost my car when i shouldnt have. The car was valued without the modifications so when i sold it i sold the mods as part of the price When i bought my car i did not pay extra for the mods as the seller needed a quick sale. I bought the car as an investment as i got a very good deal.

I took £4,700 and sold the car for for just under £4000 but its irrelevant what i made on the car. Yeah, i have made a bit of cash but i didnt want to be buying a new car, i wanted mine.

I am p1ssed off that they wrote my car off as a CAT D when it clearly wasnt.

It clearly was otherwise they wouldn't have written it off.
