What is it about 05:40 am?
For the last three nights I have woken up at exactly this time - which is annoying as I usually go to bed at around midnight.
It's bloody annoying and now I am quite tired!

Turn your alarm clock off or reset it to 10.00 am !!!
but yep bit strange to be this exact same time three mornings in a row thou, sure your not being woken up by a neighbour leaving for work at this time every morning ??

That is nothing. I have a crap every morning in life at bewteen 6.45 and 6.50. I spoke to my doctor, who told me that a regular motion was a sign of a healty bowel, and was nothing to worry about, so he asked me what I thought the problem really was. I think he understood when I told him....

I always wake at 3.11 am on the weekend!! Such a stupid time and I have no idea why.
I think it's down to the children stirring as they get to stay up a bit later, so its toilet time!
I also can never sleep soundly on the weekend. I could happily sleep until 10 am+ but 7 am seems to like me better!!!

I drink beer, any amount, even just one pint. I will wake up at 4:30am guaranteed.
An no I'm not going tee-total. There is only so much tea/soft drinks one can stand, plus the latter is usually not much more healthy to me anyway.
Blood tests came back ok. Apparently (not that I trust the NHS to check it properly

I've had a couple of *episodes* where I had exactly the same problem. Bleddy annoying but could never figure out why. It is a curable problem though. One time it happened I went skiing for a long weekend with mates. Must have had about 3 hours sleep a night for the whole time plus copious quantities of alcohol plus skiing all day. Got home and my sleep *problems* had disappeared.

Maybe you just need different scenery/routine for a while? More exercise? Any events in your life that could be causing stress? (Apart from the nanny jumping your bones at 5.40 every morning .... )
