Decent watch thats not too expensive?
Right I have a decent watch that has lasted me well but the problem is that its a bit too decent, I always wear short sleeve shirts so its always on "display" so to speak. This caused me some problems a few years ago when two groups of people tried to mug me on the same day when I was in Jakarta.
So I need a spare watch that is bulky, strong and preferably metal, no budget but I don't want to end up spending too much as it will defeat the object of buying it . I have seen something like this:
but its probably overkill for what I need as I probably wont use any of the features on it, any ideas where i should be looking?

I have one of these:
...which I wear for biking, working in the garage and other any other occasions where I wouldn't want to wear my decent watch.
Damn thing's the most accurate watch I've ever owned, and despite the abuse it doesn't have a mark on it!

Just don't wear one if you're somewhere dodgy
Personally I stopped wearing a watch years ago, I've always got my mobile phone, that tells the time and much more besides.
Looking the the threads on here though, might like a Ball watch one day....

Seriously though, what is your Budget? £1000? Less? More?
For about £500 you could get a TW Steel watch. They're big on oversized watches.

I was behind a soldier in a shop last week and he had that I think was the Casio Pro trek watch on but would much prefer something metal.

I got one of these.....
Reason I got it is because I hate watches you have to correct, and it updates from the time signal twice a day. It will do that whereever you are in the world too (nearly). It's solar powered too, so no batteries to worry about.

That Suunto looks ace! I have had many 'kick about' watches including G-Shocks. G-Shocks are excellent if the watch is going to take a bit of battering I had the metal one and it was near indesctructable.
I now use these as you can break them and not give a **** (£8). Water proof and fairly tough means it's perfect for all my outdoor pursuits too.

If you shop around you can pick one of these up for around £85 these days, which is a bit of a bargain, and the best bit is the colour looks like wr blue.

similar dilemma - after i lost my sports watch kite-surfing in Egypt earlier in the year
replaced it with one of these
not perfect - the light is a little dim -- but does the job

My idea of reasonably priced, and yours, may differ: but Id suggest a Longines Hydroconquest automatic. Im about to buy one as an everyday quality watch and at a shade under £600 (best price) you cant go wrong.

Seiko is frequently the answer to someones 'which watch?' question, but Id suggest an SKX007 or 009 over the inferior Monster, and the 'J' over the cheaper 'K'. I like the extremely cheap quartz Flightmaster chronographs too...
