Default Whos Picking up a new 60 reg car this week??

So how bad/good is the economy at the moment? I've probably got to wait another month for my car because of high demand (ordered 3 months ago) but I thought every one was poor in these troubled times?

Seems like the German motor industry is busy. I ordered my new Audi beginning of July and delivery round a bout Christmas!

I think we'd know clearer if we asked who was picking up a private car, rather than a company car, to see what share private sales have in the market.

Don't expect I will buy a new car again. Too much of a loss as you drive it out of the showroom.

Yes thats true of course but I would be happy with a well looked after used car at a fair reduction on the new price.

How much do you have to earn to afford a brand new car?
I know some people must make a lot of sacrafices to have one!
I earn about the average wage and I paid £7k for my 7 year old car. I can't imagine how people like me can afford new ones!

That's surely a very open ended question as it depends what new car you want to buy. Don't forget also that a lot of people finance their cars or lease them - it's just another monthly outgoing that they factor into their budgets. For example I have just looked at a leasing site where you can lease a new Vauxhall Corsa for £135/month. That's not a lot of money - I would imagine some people spend more than that on cigarettes!

Looking on the VW site you can buy a Fox for £7k - not exactly out of reach for the working man.

I'm really excited as it's being delivered to the house, and it's my first brand new car!

Agreed, i'm far more interested in finding a nice tidy low milage car, age doesn't overly worry me.
Would look for one thats been driven to the supermarket and back once a week by an old person in an ideal world. (Looking for a low milage BMW 120d by the way)

Hmmm, an engine that's never been stressed and will probably blow as soon as it is, and with the engine rarely getting up to operating temperature, condensation in the engine mixes with the oil and fuel to create acid which erodes the shells. Plus the stop/start nature of low mileage cars will ensure the clutch is on its way out and the engine has spent its whole life doing the most stressful thing instead of idling along in top on a straight, flat motorway, fully up to temp. I had a mate buy a 3yr old car once that had only done 3.5k from an old chap. The engine self-destructed 3 months later.

Nice Hope your seat base fabric doesn't come apart, or the height adjuster break, or the airbag light keep coming on due to dodgy wiring in the seat, or the rear suspension knock, or the CEL light keep coming on, or the autochanger stops working, or the radio aeriel fail, or........

Apart from that, we like our Octy. Much more reliable than our other Skoda.

Yep seen the same,

Ultra low mileage Corsa but used by a district nurse, never ever got warm.

Not surprised about the Mini Snazy. Its a well built car, very nice to drive and sticks like glue to the road even in the wet. Its a good car for long distance too. I would not particularly want the One but a Cooper has a fair performance for its engine size and is cheap to run and easy to park. They certainly hold their value too.

Cars I have known in the best mechnical condition all round are the ones which have been used for the longer motorway trips. Steady driving conditions and everything nicely warmed up for most of the drive.
