I hear its excruitaiting , but the only person i know was very very drunk at the time - so didnt know/or possibly did it in the morning on the way to the hospital

Anyway i had a heavy impact last monday went up to A&E and after seeing nurse for intail consultation gave up after 2 hours before doc could see . Apparently they dont xray now unless perhaps youve collapsed or something

Im fine standing up now just turning at night is 'tricky' and short of breath after getting up for a ****

I've seen a few punctured lungs in my time in A&E (dentist on call)...... Pneumothorax to give a technical term. Short of breath main complaint but pain on breathing deeply and coughing.

Usually pretty obvious if fully collapsed as stethescope hears no breathing on one side. X-ray shows lung the size of a large apple !

Thanks for that , it certainly has been painfull on deep breathing much more so coughing .
But MUCH less now a week on , i guess i better go and see a doctor .

,The nurses main concern was somekind of chest infection springing up . she didnt even have a stethoscope / do any prodding i guess beyond her remit

NHS or Doctor ...... could just be bruised chest from impact, but you can't **** about with things like that.

I had a collapsed lung when I was about 17, I did it at the gym, worked all day and then walked a short distance home, My mother just called 999 when I walked in as she said I was a weird shade of green, I was in hospital over the weekend and it wasnt nice, but It had no long term effects and I recovered very quickly,
Best way they tell is by the sound if they tap on ur back, the sound is different (bit like tapping a empty box and a full box).

Whats strange is that theres no apparent briusing on sternum - it was quite an impact ( catapulted into mast / board / boom ? windsurfing . I struggled into the beach with the gear, thankfully not that far , but mate had to put gear away



Anyyway booked to see Doc this morning

i have had 2 Pneumothorax.

1st (right lung) was when i was 16, was in hospital for around 5 weeks, as they couldnt get the lung to stay up, in the end they sewed it up

2nd (left lung) was a year later, was in juat a little longer as 6 weeks. same thing again, nothing worked, but they fixed it in the end

Just logged on to read the threads and seen yours, im currently recovering from a broken coller. Broke week last sunday when my new 2010 fireblade when drown the road.but any way.
Like the Daone i have have had loads.
1st on the left the 6 months later on the right, i'm in the armed forces so when the docter said it was one of them things i wanted another opinion. I had the plural cavity removed and the top of my lungs stapled, had to collapes both lungs at one major surgery chest drains. Fine for 3 years then thr ight side went again so they went back in to the cavilty and re glued the chest wall same again both chest drains. Loads of drugs.
Been ok now for 4 years does not affect my life style at all.
Now looking out of front window wondering what i can do scooby.

arrrr the chest drains,

hated having them put in, 4 holes right side, 3 left side, and the scars from them look like cats bums. not the nicest thing having them put in, having a big needle think pushed through your chest wall, then the releaf as the pressure and air comes out when it brakes through arrrgh. then all night and day for weeks with thant sucking sound and the drain wath really nasty stuff in. and on the odd couple of times the drain came out. pulling the help cord with one hand, and the other over the hole lol

I had spontaneous pneumothorax on my right hand side about nine years ago at Christmas time completely out of the blue. Thought it was chronic indigestion at first and couldn't understand why I was out of breath dancing at the office party! Unfortunately the local lung specialist was away skiing at the time and they put me on a ward with a chest drain and X rays etc when really I would have been better off at home. Specialist on his return reckoned you are better off without the drain as the collapsed lung will heal quicker than the artificially inflated one.

It still deflates a bit every now and again - I get indigestion feeling at the top of my back and a bit of breathlessness - I just go the the gym and try to pump it up. Usually works. Was a total collapse first time mind. On the plus side, collapses are meant to happen less as you get older and your lungs more leathery. Tall young athletes such as basketball players quite prone to collapses apparently.
