Power Snooker
Anyone been watching this on ITV4?
Americanised snooker.
Its weird with the crowd being allowed to cheer, still not sure what the power ball does apart from making red lights flash.

The middle red is the PowerBall, which when potted counts for two points and triggers a two minute PowerPlay during which every ball potted counts double – if a shot is missed during a PowerPlay, the player’s opponent inherits the remaining time.

Don't much see what the point is trying to improve on what is already a very good game of skill.
Certainly think that having a noisy audience would do nothing but drag the game down.

Also the match is reckoned by time - 30mins - and not a set amount of frames. So both players' scores are carried over to the next frame, and the next, etc., until the 30mins is up. The player with the highest cumulated points is the winner.
There is no "D"; the cue ball being placed anywhere in the Power Play area (as in Pool), at break-off and after "in-off" foul shots.
Oh, and at the rack-up, there are only 9 reds, arranged in a diamond, with the red/white-striped Power Ball in the centre.

I thought it was great, a nice way to speed it up, most people attention span doesnt last long enough for most snooker matches, even more so if its over 4 sessions,
The crowd being so close adds atmosphere and most players seemed to really get into it,
it wont replace the main tournaments but is a good way to get people into it,
speaking of the rules,a few players didnt even know them lol, one match didnt stop at 30 mins either as they played to the power play clock and the ref`s cant add up.

Typical yanks!! Let's jazz it up by cheering and getting all happy clappy!!
Remember being on a flight from Bangkok to Heathrow and when we landed this group of Yanks started clapping and cheering!! FFS - the pilot has done his job and you've landed. Put a sock in it!!
It'll be cheerleaders on the sidelines next!

Is this Power Snooker a US 'invention'/product then?
Reminds me of the last time the Football WC was held in the US. They wanted the goals to be wider to lead to potentailly 'more exciting' scorelines.
They don't get it. You only have to look at basketball to see that!
That said, I rather like this PS format (and I'm normally very much a purist when it comes to sport).
What's wrong with that?! Teen gussets and asses FTW! Somewhere to stick the chalk, I s'pose.....

As said, clearly going for the darts type experience with a similar boozy audience. I wasn't too sure about it but I can see why they've done it and I'm sure they'll get punters in to watch just on the basis of drink.

There was enough eye candy at this years Power Snooker. I'm a purist snooker player, have been for 20 years and i love the game but i'm a fast player so PS suits me too. Wouldnt mind a few frames with these 3
