This must be a good idea? Put all your monthly spend on the card, clear it at the end of the month and by the end of the year have racked up enough miles for a flight?

I think it took a friend of mine something like 10 years using an airmiles card for business use - flying twice a month & expenses... to get enough miles for a flight to oz
not good value once you start to look into them

Thats what i do with my Lloyds TSB Airmiles Duo.
Automatic DD at every month to clear off what I spend. And double Airmiles if I use the American Express card, but I still have a Mastercard for those places that still won't accept American Express.
They do levy higher charges on the retailer, so its understandable for small shops not to take it, but with the likes of B&Q refusing to accept them, it sucks
Think I have enough to get to Italy and back for free last time I checked.

Problem with American express (as I've just found out) is that you can hardly use the bloody thing anywhere. Hardly any online shops take it, and very few street shops take it.
I only use mine now for paying for petrol. Can't seem to use it anywhere else.

A £120 purchase costs the shop over £3. Not alot you would think, but put that on a few transactions per day and it soon mounts up.

I don't mind the small retailers not accepting it, thats why Lloyds supply an Airmiles Mastercard for those instances. But its the big fish that narks me off. I mean a multi-million pound business like B&Q not accepting AE

Its handy on things like petrol; For example I use the AE card at my local tesco petrol station, so get mies via that. And I also convert my clubcard points to airmiles too.
In the end of the day, its something for nothing. As a consumer, we can't complain about that can we (just make sure the paymenst clear every month

The problem is, American Express fail to tell you these things before you upgrade your card. Mine was through MBNA. They told me about the extra points etc, just not that i couldn't use the ****** anywhere.

I hate Virgin Atlantic rewards, I racked up 120 thousand points yet found it almost impossible to spend when it suited me, even then after paying taxes and fees the flights were far from free.
I've ended up spending them on Euro Star travel
