if the fancy packaging is irrelevant to sales the Tobacco lobby should welcome this with open arms, as it’s much cheaper to produce plain brown packets
.
and if it catches on the whole multi billion pound branding industry can simply pack up and go home, taking their comedy suits with them

I started because we had 3 days on a train watching fields of corn across Canada. Gutbustingly boring!
Smoked for many years but managed to kick it when I was in hospital thanks goodness.
Would not want to touch one now.

An an ex-smoker, I hate it now. Smoking:
a. makes you smell
b. doesn't make you look cool, it makes you look dirty
c. costs a horrendous amount these days, even if you buy the cheapest **** or roll your own
d. causes so much litter, it's disgusting
e. prematurely ends your life and smokers continue even though they know this
f. causes you to stand outside in the cold when all of your non-smoking mates are having fun indoors
g. makes you smell horrible (think I already said that one...)
h. makes you an addict where you say things like, "it's my only pleasure in life, so leave me alone", or "I'll give up one day, but I'm too stressed/busy/going on holiday soon and I'll do it after (delete as appropriate)...."
Listen, I know it's hard, but if I could do it, anyone can. I was all of the above and no matter if they put a big sign above my head with an arrow pointing towards me saying how weak willed I was, I would have still done it. Smoking is becoming more and more socially unacceptable and I'm glad.![Thumb](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/thumb.gif)
Back to the original question, it wouldn't matter what packaging it came in, people will still smoke.

Smoked for 12 years, I felt guilty every time I lit a ***. It was the company that I wanted to level my grounds with, not the pretty cigarette packet. I gave up 3 years ago after witnessing the horrendous staining inside my wabbit pair of teeth. I could feel that my lungs were going crispy, my mouth stank like a sewerage, and my windpipe must have looked like a damp coalmine of Austria. I repeatedly suffered from accute URIs during all those 12 years. Giving up that smothering stick in one of the best things I have ever done. I feel great.

This one is slighty incorrect. Its like the 'guns kill people' argument. No they don't, its the people that use them.
Likewise, there is no reason someone can't stub their tab out and put it in a bin, they simply can't be bothered. Especially annoying are the ones that come flying out of the car window when there is a ashtray in the dash.

I would never have put a cigarette out in my car - it would devalue it!

No offence but likewise on the tabs in the car. Worried it'll devalue it? then don't smoke in the car. Something that really annoys the hell out of me.
don't mind people having a tab, certianly not in pubs and I don't even smoke but the sheer unthinking gimpyness of chucking the ends out of the window on the move does my nut.
