Cool

Heading to Kidderminster tomorrow, need to be there by 9.30am. I'll be coming from approximately the Dartfood Tunnel area of the M25. Does anyone have any idea how long this should take at that time of day?

Depending on traffic (although you are heading out of London you may hit Birmingham bound traffic at that time in the morning) try the M40, M42, M5 - Junction 6 for Kidderminster then A449 from Junction 6 - route is virtually dual carriageway/motorway until you get approx. 2 miles from Kiddi.

Should take no longer than 3 hours....perhaps 2.5?

probably allow at least 3 hours, the M11/A14 would be an alternative route for you.

Thumbs up

Why not leave from somewhere closer. If you make it 30 minutes away you can lie in to 9.00

M11/A14/M6 is usually the best (not much traffic on the A14) but unfortunately you'll have to go through the Stansted Airport roadworks

Not a great journey to look forward to but 3 hrs should be OK.

Leaving @ 06.30 get yourself in on the A13, go through town and out on the A40/M40. Avoid A2 and M25 definately.

If you don't fancy the A13 you could go through the docks and see if you can keep up with a hard-driven Vectra Better cars have tried it...

Too many choices now

As Puff is a harderned M11 driver I may take his advice to miss that off then, and take the A13 thru town.

PS Puff. As I know you love the Stansted roadworks so much, dont you just double love the speed traps, painted bright spanking yellow, which would be really kind if they weren't hidden behind bl**dy bridge

C'mon, I'm giving my "professional" advice here

I'm hoping your map-reading's not as bad as having to think you need to go up the M11

Avoid M25 'cos it is a nightmare always at some point and you are doubling your journey distance by going round.

A2 will already be bottlenecked at the Blackwall at that time (or has the potential to before the 3rd lane goes in), so a quick nip throught the Dartford & in the A13 until you get to Aspen Way/Docklands is a good idea. If confident, use the City Airport roads to miss out the r/works on A13 by East Ham (come off at N Circular, T left and follow the signs, first for City Aiport, then The City ). Along the Highway and follow Lower/Upper Thames St 'til you get to the Blackfriars. Right up through Farringdon St/Rd to King's Cross and onto the Euston Road (A40).

Straight out and follow A40 until becomes M40 and M40 'til M42, turning left towards Wales. Follow until either you take the Bromsgrove t/off or right onto M5 and off at the first junction.

M40 should be clear of major probs and it won't be 'til you get to the M42 that there may be any hold-ups. Local ingress @ Kidderminster I can't comment on.

Thinking about it, 06:00 is a better time to start as you're travelling 150 odd miles, which in 3 hours requires 50mph average - without interuptions. Also allows time to find the location (www.multimap.com) and park and have a pee if needed. You should be looking at 45mins to say Blackfriars, allowing 2.25 for the remainder.

Let me know how you get on

Further to M11/A14/M6 route...

M25 probably not too bad heading north - probably

M11 n'bound at new r'works (J6-7) is 2 lanes at that time. There's always a tailback at J8 heading n'bound (unlike heading s'bound ), then there's the delights of the A14 past Huntingdon, which although going west is better than that going East, still not always a happy location.

Rest of A14 is prob NP (2 lanes only) but then M6 past Coventry and coming upto the M42 can be slow. M42 or M5? That stretch of M42 past NEC is not too clever either and trying to go past the A38 without getting stuck before the M5 is almost guaranteed to stop you.

Distance wise, you'd be looking at 180 - 200 miles with more possibility of hold-ups.

I don't mind the M11 as I know where all the cameras are and at what speed is safe to pass them (40mph officer!)

Just for clarification

I took this route. A crash at Dagenham on the A13 meant mega jams at 6.30ish Then the A40/Marlebone Rd was down to 1 lane (for 40 whole yds) so King Cross onwards was also chaos. I eventually hit the M40 @ 9.00 3 hours to do the first 40 miles!!!
Warp 5 ensued all the way up from then, onto the M42 where my exit to the M5 was closed Had to use backroads via Redditch and Bromgrove, unfortunately 5million others had the same idea and it took another 1 1/2 hours to do the last 25 miles. Turned up two hours late ooops 5 1/2 hours!!!

Met Askew etc for a few cokes and a Balti, left at 11.05pm, got home at 12.50am ....1 3/4 hours back (we wont mention the mpg!!!)

Was afun day, cheers.

What route did you take on the way back?

Unfortunately my advice doesn't come with a moneyback guarantee but will work 99/100 times Also not reponsible for accidents or other unforeseen traffic congestion...

M40-M25-A127

At an average speed of 70mph (naturally officer) thats only 122.5 miles, which is at least 45 miles less than my milometer indicated

How strange

Kiddy guy here....

use suggested route of m40/m42/m5 juntion 6 a449 to the hallowed ground....

About 2 to 2.5 tops I reckon.. when you hit the m42 you would have missed the rush hour traffic (7.30 to 8.30) plus you are going the opposite way to it.

Good luck!
