Okay, I have had this for a couple of days and was getting extremely frustrated: Email didn't work properly (couldn't send email, couldn't download attachments from (work) exchange), Skype didn't work, lousy signal.
I had it up on Gumtree for sale.
Then I thought I would have a go at 'hacking' the phone to load 2.2 and wow it made a difference: Synced straight away to email, skype works and a better user experience with all the network branding / irritation gone.
No point ... just ranting![Smile](https://www.scoobynet.com/images/smilies/smile.gif)

Can't believe 2.1 to 2.2 makes such a difference though. Assuming it was running 2.1

Going from 2.1 to 2.2 (Froyo) did make all the difference. I have no idea why Orange do not let you do this and are messing around.
Antc: I will look forward to 2.2.1, but I guess Samsung have to do their stuff to it first ...

This is a second-hand phone that was branded from Orange at 2.1. I unlocked it so I could use my work Vodafone SIM card. And had all the problems described above.

If its rooted, then uploading a rom is as easy as 123
Copy the rom to the SD card
enter recovery mode - 3 button press
select restore firmware
sit & wait
(In time honoured iphone tradition
--Some steps have been shortened

you'll need to use cf root first to get into 2e recovery if not already done

I've only just bought my galaxy s. Will i be running 2.2 by default?
Also i have a problem with email. It only updates the email when i check into the email icon, which takes time. Is there anyway to make it continuously check the emails?

i'll disagree there and chuck the htc desire hd into the ring, a cracking phone that actually stopped me from getting another iphone.
i certainly agree about the blackberrys though, i work in a carphone warehouse and the amount of blackberrys we get in each week that are only a couple of months old and ****ed already is stupid. they account for 75% of repairs in our store and i think are the most overrated pile of crap you can get.

You have to slide your finger from the left to right and that will answer.
I assume your question is real ... I certainly spent quite a while stabbing at the green button trying to get the stupid thing to answer until I realised (accidently as it happens) that you have to do the above ...

Yes its possible. Loads of people routed because they couldn't wait for 2.2 froyo. There's a 200+ page thread on PHeads with links to various sites that can advise on routing. I've never bothered to be honest as I find the Desire on 2.2 ok as is.
