One down, three to go.

No wonder they wriggled so much to be judged and punished by the commons.

Good news.

Great news, not long enough IMO, but at least he is going to do some time.

The sad thing is like the rest of them he probably still thinks he did nothing wrong.

The only thing any single one of them was ever sorry for was the fact they got caught!!!

One out of four going to court, the rest either repaid or were let off if they apologised.

Didn't either Smith or Harman get away with about £115,000?

Ah, OK.

Well at least when the four of them are banged up together they'll be able to rape each other rather than the taxpayer.

VBRJ.

As for the one's that got away...

"Morley and Devine face separate trials at a future date."

I thought there were 4 of them, one being a Lord?

Robbing ****, deserves it.

Next start on the bankers, putting them in charge of the money is like putting Billy Bunter in chage of the cake stall.

I'd say Rob Crow of the RMT Union next. His strikes cost the London economy £50m a day as well as causing misery for millions of commuters and Londoners

I heard that he could be free at the end of May because if you are a good boy your actual sentence is reduced and he is a non-violent offender.

Don't suppose he will be going to Ford though....

Plus an early release scheme for non-violent peeps. I think this was Gov't thing to free up gaol space.

Accidental non-violent rape and murder young man? That'll be 3 weeks then..

Very glad to see the verdict, the summing up by the judge, and the sentence.

I reckon that every single MP who fiddled the allowances should be taken to court and sentenced.

It might even go some way towards the public developing some form of trust in Government again.

They are still whining about the allowances even now!

Those who effectively, "got away with it," have been shown to have learned nothing

Quite alot;

You see if they didn't lie. Like the ones that claimed expenses for their duck pond; If it actually WAS spent on the duck pond then they will get away with it.

The fault in these cases is with those who allowed the expenses to be taken without proper review nor regulation (as in the government, I know, I know ). This is the majority of MPs, they didn't lie, they just took the p*** out of rules that were so vaguely written they could take whatever they want without question. Sadly, this is not fraud.

The MPs going to court/prison on fraud charges are the ones who LIED on their expenses. In other words commiting fruad (i.e renting a house they already own, billing for non-existant IT services etc). Unfortunately, that is very few MPs.

Is there no room for moral and upright behaviour then.

Those MP's were assumed to act in a fair manner and claim expenses to which they were actually entitled to.

Most them have proved that they cannot be trusted and that is a grossly irresponsible matter when people now feel thay they are no longer to be trusted.

The irony with the Chaytor case is that he knew he was not “entitled” to the money, so he tried a pathetic and dishonest attempt to cover his tracks – which was his undoing and what he got convicted of - false accounting (it is always the cover up).

A lot of other MP’s saw the money as an entitlement hence did not even bother to try and cover it up, so got away with it.

I suppose the only good thing you can say in his defence is that at least he knew he was a common thief – most of the others did not have the grace to admit that (to themselves).

Just how injust and out of date is a justice system that allows a an to run down a small child leaving her to die under the car whilst he legs it - no licence no insurance either and he got the equivalent of 4 months jail then on release and his living expenses picked up for life (who is ever going to eploy this POS) - more wasted money and on a killer this time!
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2010/de...girl-remain-uk

I a glad chayter got 18 months, it should have been loner but i do think this counties judges and judicial system need a good review and revamp! Chayter would have got less for killing a child!

Paul doesn't matter if he's Asian or not; Fraud charges ALWAYS get far far tougher punishments than motoring crimes involving victims.

Accidentally kill someone in a drunken fight and you'll go down for a few years.

Kill someone whilst driving drunk, with no MOT, tax, licence or insurarnce and you basically get a year...if you are unlucky or have previous. Most of the time its a few months and early parole.

Kill someone whilst driving whilst sober, but banned, but with MOT and you'll get a few months.

Add extenuating circumstances (need car for work, girl ran out without looking etc) and you'll get the jail term suspended.

Its always been that way. Ask my neighbour: Her son was killed whilst doing a paper round and left for dead by a hit and run drunk driver who was already banned and known to police. Driver didn't even go to prison! This was twenty years ago. Nothing has changed in the law since.
