Default Metric rubbish! 10cm of snow!

Took ages for petrol to change from the price per gallon to the litre.Sure it was so we'd not be able to work out when it was more than £5.00 per gallon

Now the snow!! 'Britain expecting 10 cm!!!' wow! Thats less than four inches or half of my ...anyway

I hate metric.Child of the classrooms of the 70's and 80's so understand both

We aren't going to die with four bleeding inches of snow!!!

What pisses me off is all the programs on TV that talk in kilometres instead of miles the convert everything even if it is a nice round figure in miles and a fraction in kilometres WTF

The BBC are the worst and even Top Gear does this

It was converted to litres so we won't notice that it was ONE pound a gallon. **** - I was driving then..... I used to get a fivers worth to do me all week, or two quid if I was a bit skint. A quid a gallon caused a minor revolt but when beer hit a quid a pint......... the tormoil...... everyone stayed in for a whole weekend

We had a self serve pump that took 10 bob notes (that's 50p for doZZa I know you were only joking )

And might I add: We were still working as normal in 14 foot of snow up North, with barely a mention on the news. You shandies get 2mm and the airports close, its on the tv 18 hrs a day telling the world how tough you're having it, you are all forced to stay at home with your central heating turned up to max, your poncey one wheel drive beemers are stuck on the drive...pah.

I think they use the cm's on the new to sensationalise it, as well as being metric PC.

10cm sounds a lot worse than 4"

Just the same way a 20cm **** sounds more impressive than an 8" one.

It's all relative, though.

You were only earning 2s 6d a month. ( or even half a crown)

As for trying to halve a recipe that's in metric........ it's easier to halve 4oz butter than errr......125g (?). Or 3/4 pint liquid (15fl ozs) instead of errr........errrr.......lots of mmls!

I agree 100%.

Why should we have to change our own method of measurement to the foreign metric system. Our imperial method worked perfectly for all those years.

I reckon those TV lot are just trying to demonstrate how modern and clever they are. Load of old cobblers!

I notice the metric/imperial thing mostly on imported American documentaries that have been re-voiced by an English narrator

I suspect it's because the scripts have been re-written by American writers who just assume we are metric, rather than getting of thier ***** and finding out

Britain tend to use the higher or lower measure of units to 'sensationalise' newsworthy stories.

A classic is using deg.C for winter temps., and the deg.F scale for summer temps.

Plus, as in the case of petrol, the switch from displaying the prices in litres rather gallons - helps stifle people's disbelief/anger, etc.

I'm one of the first to get annoyed with outside interference when it comes to how this country does things, but it is a lot easier to measure things in metric than in fractions.

That is because at the time you had **** all in the way of snow anyway.

Then all of a sudden it thawed out up here, next thing you know the news is DOMINATED by snow, airports closed, and everybody kicking off.

At that point i knew the snow had moved down south

Go if they get a covering down here they grind to a halt, it was snowing the other day but it had not started to settle at that time and some idiots were driving at 20mph on a 50mph country road...either drive properly or stay at home ffs :-)

Metric or imperial I work in both, although converting between the two takes a small while :-)

To convert Celsius to Faranheit: mutiply by 9; divide by 5; add 32

To covert F to C: subtract 32; mutiply by 5; divide by 9

Comprende?

Isn't it easier to just double it and add 30?.........or is it 28?
