Default Car with no Tax

I need to get my car, which is currently declared off the road to the MOT garage.

Car is also not insured.

How can I do this.

Anyone know?

Insure it, book an appointment and drive it there for the MOT.

Only two ways around this. Tax it and then send the tax disc back to DVLA once finished and take the bite on a months tax or use a trailer to take it there.

You can't tax it with no insurance or MOT.

AS DCI says the only safe way is to insure it, book the MOT and drive it there for the appointment.

You don't require valid road tax to ensure it and as long as you're driving for a valid appointment in the MOT garage it'll be fine. You can even get day insurance specially for this type of thing.... speak to your insurers and they'll sort you out.

You are legally allowed to drive a car on the road with no mot, providing it is going to & from a pre-booked mot.

That's the only time, and you could still face prosecution for having an un-roadworthy car if stopped by the police (if its a fail, or has a fault beforehand)

You can drive to the MOT place if you have an appointment for the test. The car must be insured. You can then tax it after a successful MOT.

Check on the internet for one day insurance, it's what I did when my car went up to Harvey's on a trailer.

Below has been copied from the DVLA website;

If I make SORN does my vehicle have to be kept off the public roads?

Yes. There is one exception - when the vehicle is going to a pre-arranged MOT test and the vehicle has valid insurance for the journey.

I prefer this version.

If a man speaks in the forest and there are no women around to hear, is he still wrong?

Isn't the car already registered? Have I missed something? Is it an import?
