Generally yes you should be safe to buy a new dongle as most should cover all the wireless ranges.

Yes almost any usb wireless adapter will be fine. 'N' means extended range and better speed if your router supports it.

I fitted this yesterday to enable my pc to be wireless, tidier and cheaper than a usb dongle.

Only tidier if you happen to have the back of your pc facing you which i'd be very surprised if anyone does

Or perhaps some people (me for one) have usb ports on the face of their tower. Or would prefer to leave their ports vacant for other uses.

Personally i'd much rather (and did) fit a pci card for half the price of a dongle. Let's face it, a dongle by it's placement alone has a chance of being damaged or broken.

I was merely giving the OP another option, which could also be more reliable.

All IMHO of course.

A good choice and one worth considering, however and I mean no disrespect to the OP if he is asking about wireless dongles I doubt he will want to stip the side off his tower and plug in a card tot he motherboard.

I may be wrong and doing him an injustice for which I apologise but he may just be after the easy option.

Looking at the description on that item it only supports up to 'g' standard wireless and and only WPA1 security protection. Now a days I would only go for 'n' standard and and at least cover WPA-2 security.

Yes, you are of course correct.

It was not and issue for me. The pc is a second back up system and is not used a great deal so 'g' is sufficient for our use of the machine. Security wise, i don't really consider WPA1 an issue. If it can be hacked it will be, regardless if it's WPA1 or 2.

Totally agree with you though. Perhaps this would be better choice for a more secure primary machine.
