My local garage would do it for me. Or, if they did not have the time they would put me in touch with someone who could. Most good independents with a bodyshop should have someone on site who can weld.

There's a guy near us works out of an old stable block at a country house. He's the local expert. Can weld owt, welded a new dropout in Titanium onto my Ti framed MTB. Charged me £25.

He also works for BAE when they need any odd metals welded.

Stainless, requires some degree of skill, and has if i recall to be tig welded as opposed to arc or mig.

You also need stainless rods & i believe the welder needs to be coded to weld with stainless (although this may just be for certian job requirements)

When i worked on a large fabrication project which used a large proportion of stainless, we had arc mig and tig welders all working on the various stages.

We had many guys capable of arc, some capable of arc, and mig, but only one or two capable of arc, mig, & tig.

The guy doing the stainless welding, war virtually with us non stop due to the complexity of the work, and he was the only one coded and capable of welding stainless steel

I would ask my Dad because that's what he does for a living

Whereabouts are you based?

Coded welders are usually for certain types of jobs, pipework and projects where the integral strength of the weld needs to be assured.

Stainless can be welded with TIg (which is probably easiest) it can also be arc and mig welded.

Arc welding Stainless and using stainless rods (which can also be used to weld onto normal metal but normal rods cannot be used on stainless) requires an element of skill as with most welding if the speed and settings on the welder are correct the weld slag will peel by itself, with Stainless it often pings off all by itself.

Mig welding stainless is relatively simple (compared to Arc & Tig (tig is quite hard by comparison) and requires the right coil of welding wire (and gas depending on the sytem) and you are away.

HTH.

OP you did not say what the job was as depending on what you require would depend on the method used for ease of fabrication, oh and the grade of stainless.

Im Sussex coast . They are going to be spreader brackets , one each side of a mast .

The bloke i went to turned out to basically just do turning , so produced these flat plates to my design , he couldnt do any more so iv bashed them fit the profile of the mast . Now iv got to get a 3 inch long circular extension welded on to each to fit into the round spreaders .

They should be 316 and are 3mm . Bit of an ordeal , id have got a mast manufacturer to make them up , But i thought id get someone local to do the job............4 months later

It would :-) I spent 10 years in metalwork fabrication and it still comes in handy 10 years later :-)
