Default No insurance, no licence........

I saw most of the TV cops programme last night - the one where an HGV driver was stopped when 3 times over the drink limit with a dozen cans of Export to keep him going

But what really hacks me off is the kids driving with no insurance and sometimes without even a full licence.

I've got two kids that drive and I end up paying for their insurance and, as anyone insuring young drivers is concerned will know, it ain't cheap

So these kids end up in court, get told off, and are fined less that I pay for insurance

And that really, really pisses me off.

Anyone feel the same?

dl

Yup, I do (but then I do work in insurance!) They get banned and a wee fine, but then they don't care about being banned cos they never had a licence in the first place and will no doubt be at it again a few weeks later!

The clearly alcoholic older HGV driver was pretty damn scarey! When i was 18 i used to take 4 cans of Super to parties (cos they were cheaper than 8 std cans and had the dame effectl!) that guy had a dozen empty ones in the back of his cab and looked like he sipped away at the stuff constantly as he drove his 44 tonne truck! I can imagine him ploughing into the back of a family car full of kids in traffic!

I was brought up to realise that driving when uninsured is a very serious offence. Anyone caught doing that knowingly deserve all they get in my opinion. The penalty should be very heavy.

It is totally unfair on anyone who is involved in a accident with such a person and not only that, the habit is costing the rest of us a great deal of cash in extra premiums.

watched one the other night. some woman was reversing her vauxhall corsa out of a pub car park to drive home. someone came out, opened her door and removed the keys and called the cops. when she had been taken down to the police station she blew 154mg on the evidential breathe test

The polish HGV driver with a pint of brandy in the cab and the better part of Two empty brandy bottle was also quite shocking. of course, he cant speak english but through interpreter he says he was drinking on the ferry over. and of course without enough evidence to prove anything, he got let off to **** off back to Poland.

An uninsured driver hit my lad, putting his 18 month old Clio 197 in a ditch and causing nearly £7000 of damage, with two people in hospital.

HE was charged with no insurance AND DWDCA.

Result: £155 in fines, no costs.

Cost my lad £800 excess which it took us over a year to get back.

if Im late with my coucil tax or dont get my car taxed, get ready to be bummed by the powers at be!

And it hits the driver hard as well (excuse the pun). When looking for insurance I got asked have you been in an accident that wasnt your fault. Why are they asking that? If it wasnt your fault then thats got nothing to do with anything.

Same with all these programs.

Its a laugh that voice over person says something like "for having no license he was hit with a two year ban" like that was punishment. As if someone driving without a license even cares! May as well not bother.

Thats a big problem. When the prices go so high for them they think why should they bother. So when they hit people premiums go up making it even less of an incentive to take out insurance. Its a vicious circle.

Agreed, my lads have both struggled to pay insurance after I paid their first years for them.

One is still at uni and does some part time work in holidays, the other was out of work ten months last year.

The problem is as stated: do they pay £1500+ insurance on a car worth £200, or do they risk the £150 fine and points?

Unfortunately, it's usually the fine.

Conscience and morality would stop me but I started to get quotes of £1800+ for my insurance and it make me think why I should bother. Now if thats on a £7000 car you dont need to be a genius to work out that the above would be better off not paying. At the end of the day and the worse comes to the worse and you crash in to a Bugatti Veyron and summersault into Lord Sugars house you can declare yourself bankrupt.

This was posted a while back but makes sense to me

USA JAIL - SOME INTERESTING READING
TO THOSE OF YOU NOT FAMILIAR WITH JOE ARPAIO, HE IS THE MARICOPACOUNTY SHERIFF ( ARIZONA ) AND HE KEEPS GETTING ELECTED OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

These are some of the reasons why:

Sheriff Joe Arpaio created the 'tent city jail' to save Arizona from spending tens of millions of dollars on another expensive prison complex.

He has jail meals down to 20 cents a serving and charges the inmates for them.

He banned smoking and pornographic magazines in the jails, and took away their weightlifting equipment and cut off all but 'G' movies. He says:
'They're in jail to pay a debt to society not to build muscles so they can assaultinnocent people when they leave.'

He started chain gangs to use the inmates to do free work on county and city projects and save taxpayer's money.

Then he started chain gangs for women so he wouldn't get sued fordiscrimination.

He took away cable TV until he found out there was a federal court order that required cable TV for jails. So he hooked up the cable TV again but only allows the Disney channel and the weather channel.

When asked why the weather channel, he replied: 'So these morons will know how hot it's gonna be while they are working on my chain gangs.'
He cut off coffee because it has zero nutritional value and is therefore a waste of taxpayer money. When the inmates complained, he toldthem, 'This isn't the Ritz/Carlton. If you don't like it, don't come back.'

He also bought the Newt Gingrich lecture series on US history that he pipes into the jails. When asked by a reporter if he had any lecture series by a Democrat, he replied that a democratic lecture series that actually tells the truth for a change would be welcome and that it might even explain why 95% of the inmates were in his jails in the first place.

With temperatures being even hotter than usual in Phoenix (116 degrees just set a new record for June 2nd2007), the Associated Press reported: About 2,000 inmates living in a barbedwiresurrounded tent encampment at the Maricopa County Jail have been given permission to strip down to theirgovernment-issued pink boxer shorts.

On theWednesday, hundreds of men wearing pink boxer shorts were overheardchatting in the tents, where temperatures reached 128 degrees.
'This is hell. It feels like we live in a furnace,' said Ernesto Gonzales, an inmate for 2years with 10 more to go. 'It's inhumane.'
Joe Arpaio, who makes his prisoners wear pink, and eat bologna sandwiches, is not one bit sympathetic. 'Criminals should be punished for their crimes - not live in luxury until it's time for parole, only to go out and commit more crimes so they can come back in to live on taxpayers money and enjoy things many taxpayers can't afford to have for themselves.'

The same day he told all the inmates who were complaining of the heat in the tents: 'It's between 120 to 130 degrees in Iraq and our soldiers are living in tents too, and they have to walk all day in the sun, wearing full battle gear and get shot at, and they have not committed any crimes, so shut your damned mouths!'

Way to go, Sheriff! If all prisons were like yours there would be a lot less crime and we would not be in the current position of running out of prison spaces.

Sadly, the Human Rights, duffle coat wearing, tree hugging touchey feely, aaaah prison is the wrong answer crowd won't agree.

I was very nearly killed when an uninsured driver hit my 6 month old Sti in 2002. As I was fully comp the insurance repaired the car but I had £400 excess to pay. I took the tw@t who hit me to court and am still now 9 years later being paid £11.83 every quarter. I can honestly say now 8 years later that I wish he had killed himself in the accident , but he walked away without a scratch.

Yep, I'm the unluckiest person you'll meet, ever.

If I sit at table of twelve people at dinner and we ALL buy raffle tickets, I will be the only one not to win a prize.
I could go on, but it's not relevant to this thread.

an unisured driver crashed into my dads car about 10 years back.
The guy was on the dole etc , he got fined and paid £1 a week from his dole money, then we wonder why they dont pay £1000 to insure a car?

This is the problem with most laws in this country , if you have nothing to lose there is very little deterrent.

Bottom line people driving with no licence or insurance dont care.
If they get cought they get a slap on the rist, banned for driving and a small fine and there car crushed.
They didnt have a licence in the first place so what difference is being banned going to make, the small fine is nothing to them and there car is probably only cost them £200 at most so no great loss when it get crushed.

The law really needs to clamp down on this and toughen up the laws.

A friend of a friend got banned for driving due to being over the limit, still didnt bother him he just used his gilfriends car as not to bring attention to him self, I found this out once he got his licence back btw but when I told him if he caused an accident he would have no insurance and the other person would loose out he wasnt all that bothered. Really pisses me off **** like that.

May be if someone causes an accident whilst uninsured they shoud be told to pay for any damage including injury and, if they can't pay, go to prison say one year for every £1000 they owe. Tough on the poor and we still end up paying for their keep but it might make people think twice before setting off?

You're right of course. But if there was some tough proper community service in the country they could be told to do it paying off money owed at say £1000 per 100 hours. Ken Clark could get his act together on that?
