Online Dating
Whats your views on it?
A modern way to meet people?
Only for people who are too sad to leave the house?
Had any experience, good or bad?
Know anyone who has had success from it?
What sites did you try etc.
lets hear your experiences and thoughts!

Never used a dating site as such, but back in the days of Freeserve chat, and Lycos chat (10+ years ago) I met a few people on line for dates.
One of them stuck around for a while :-)

I dated one guy for a bit. He was built like a brick **** house and looked a bit like Dolph London.
It was a shame he was a right freak though. Tiny **** from all the steroids and an unhealthy obsession with Arnold schwarzenegger.
He used to sweat like a beast and ate food that looked like ****.

Don't need that crap, as I have a social life
Plus, when I were single, and with my huge cack I had to install a revolving door in place of the front door for the ladies
Being honest though, if you meet someone genuine and are happy etc etc, then fair play and good luck to you

I just used to use Lycos for fun, it was just a bonus that I met some interesting people on there.
A few of them I still keep in touch with now.
I suppose I never really had trouble getting a date (get me, lol!!) so I never though about using an actual dating site. I can imagine with how the internet has expanded, it's a pretty easy way to meet people.
I do prefere to see people face to face so I can check out their shoes and feet. I hate dirty scruffy shoes, abd the same goes for teeth.
I think if you can't look after your teeth properly and own a decent pair of shoes, then your attitude to other things might be lacking and it puts me off.

As for online dating, am not so sure. A lovely chap I work with had a very narrow escape from a right gold digger. Lovely looking older lady, but she really tried to take him for a sucker. Luckily he saw sense.
I doubt it's all bad, I also know of someone who is now happily married to their online dating partner.
I'm sure there have been a couple of Scoobynet weddings too

When I moved over here I knew only the people I worked with. I'm somewhat shy and so going to a pub and picking up a girl isn't really something I go for, so online dating appealed to me.
I tried various sites, match.com, lavalife, lifematesonline, eharmony.com. I liked the setup of lavalife, eHarmony is rather good and meant to be very exacting. lifematesonline was simplistic but good (hmm, sounds like me ).
I did go on a few dates, some led somewhere, others did not.
I met my wife on lifematesonline, so I'd say it works
I did not meet any bunny boilers, so perhaps I was lucky, people always tell me about how they met this lovely girl online who turned out to be a weirdo, most are telling porkies though, either they haven't used it, or just want to try and make you feel odd about it because *they* don't like online dating.
There used to be a bit of a stigma about, eg; only sad losers use online dating, but I never thought that to be the case. I used it, it worked for me, I'd certainly suggest others have a look if they want to.

To be honest. I have met some fantastic people through Scoobynet.
OK, not a dating site, but I would never have met them, if I had not bought a Scooby.
Maz, Bubba, Manda, LF,NG, Chris and Paul, Pete, Dai, Lisa,Puff, Micky, Sara, Swiss. Hell, the list is endless.

I have a friend who married someone he met "online". The complexity here is she's Serbian, and to get UK residency, the easy way is to marry a British citizen. "His" story is they met on a "pen pal" site.
Yeah right.....however my attempts at trying to to find her advert on Russian brides.com to prove my suspicions have been fruitless.

I've never used internet dating, but I know someone close who has and it seems to have turned out ok in the end.
From my POV, the internet is just another way of meeting people (for different reasons to just dating). No doubt you can come across freaky weirdos via the internet, but equally people in 'real life' can turn out that way, once the act wears off.
I personally have made some great pals over then internet, some have turned out to be far better friends than people I see regularly. I don't see how internet dating hasn't got the same potential.

Met my wife through Lycos Chat 5 years ago, I think it has pretty much died a death now though.
I did try a dating site, met one womah who had definately used camera angles to good effect though, put a stop to that one quick style

Met my wife through MySingleFriend (Sarah Beaney's dating site) just over five years ago.
I moved away from home when I finished Uni, and as an electronics engineer work in a male dominated environment so most of the friends I made were male. Did all the going out to bars / clubs type thing in my twenties and had a fair few flings but never found a soul mate. That said I did find it difficult to chat up girls in bars as I'm not the most outgoing person and not particularly quick witted on the conversation front until I know someone better. Also my hearing has got progressively worse as I got older so that didn't help having to get someone to repeat something 2-3 times
Anyway I had thought about trying the Internet but never quite plucked up the courage. On most of the dating sites it's kind of up to you to try to sell yourself and I just found that a bit cheesy. With MySingleFriend you don't do that, one of you mates does a profile for you in an attempt to get you paired off. My best mate and his partner decided to do this on my behalf, only found out when I got an email from the site asking if I would approve what they had written, so after a bit of badgering from my friends I reluctantly went along with it......
Within a few weeks I had exchanged quite a few messages with three different girls. The first on I met for a date sounded good initially and when I met her I thought it could work but then it became clear that her horses were more important than the men in her life so that didn't go any further.
Next date was with my now wife, we just clicked from the outset, I moved in with her 3 months later and we haven't been apart since.
She was in a similar situation, wasn't really keen on the idea of Internet dating but luckily her mates made her do it, at the time she didn't even really use the Internet that much.
So yes I would recommend MySingleFriend provided you have a mate you trust to write something nice about you for the site
