Stateside shopping - any bargains?
I'm off to the Big Apple next week, where at some point I will.be dragged on a shopping trip by my better half. To ease the burden, I was wondering if there is anything worth buying over there which I would be able to sell on for a profit over here.
Obviously it will have to be legal to bring it to the UK

America isn't really the bargain it once was. Apple stuff is 10-15% cheaper depending on where you are (sales tax is different). But not really to sell on at a profit.
Clothes in places like Macys are great if you are there at the weekend as they have good sales (and as a tourist you can normally get an extra 10% off).
I go to San Franciso every month and generally just come back with clothes for my children (and the occasional iPad )

Beware some Apple stuff is not useable over here, iphone for example, the ipad has issues with either the wi-fi or 3g can't remember which one.
Have a visit to Woodbury Common, New Jersey you can find some bargins there, look for American brands and Uggs are cheap( according to the wife and two daughters) as for making a profit on your return that depends on the exchange rate you get !!
Depending what you want to spend Tiffanys on 5th Ave is quiet a bit cheaper than buying here.
If its your first time enjoy it's a great city, will be going again in March.

iPhones and iPads work perfectly well here. Well, iPhones are normally locked to the provider so have to be Jailbroken and unlocked.

Tools are usually cheaper - for the equivalent quality
And generally better quality anyway, Estwing for example
make very good hammers etc
also Carthatt clothing, much more choice and cheaper as it is just workwear in the US, no fashion tax.
in short anything still made in America (except cars)

Wi-fi is wi-fi. Providing the wireless network conforms to the specs the iPad supports it will work, and your normal home wi-fi network will certainly work with it, regardless of wether you are in the US, Canada or the UK (probably other places in the world too, I only have experience of those areas)
So, for iPhone and iPad, if you purchase in the US, the wi-fi WILL work in the UK, fact.
I've got at least five iPads in the office that were purchased, on launch day, in the US, and they have been working flawlessly in Canada. In fact, they have been to various places around the globe and seem to function on wi-fi without any problems at all.
3G - Ok, iPad is worldwide unlocked, so no carrier/network restrictions. So if you purchase one from Apple in the US, or BestBuy, Walmart, wherever, it WILL work in Canada and the UK. I've friends who have purchased 3G iPads in the US and they are working perfectly in Canada and the UK.
iPhone, that is different. If it's a non-verizon, iPhone 4 model and purchased from Apple it will be unlocked, like the 3G iPad, and thus can be used anywhere that supports 3G. If it's a verizon iPhone 4, it's not GSM, it's CDMA, so you're somewhat limited where you can use it, so don't get a verizon iPhone 4 unless you are in the US.
If you purchase the iPhone 4 from a carrier/network, it will no doubt be locked to their network, so you'd need to unlock it to use it elsewhere.
Same deal if it's pre-iPhone 4, it'll be locked to a network, so you will need to unlock it to use it elsewhere.
Again I know people with iPhone 4's purchase in the US who are happily using them in Canada and the UK.

If your into photography then http://www.bhphotovideo.com/ is worth a trip, be warned they are closed on Saturdays!
Check UK prices on anything big you want to buy though, Ive had a couple of lens bargains in the past but the gap is narrowing.

Either the people at Apple are misinformed, did not understand what you asked, or you did not understand what they said to you, as I'm afraid you are incorrect.

Surely you mean "don't GET the hump because you was wrong " learn English before critisizing fella, don't mind being wrong just don't need the BS statement.
An informed reply as in the way Markus put would have been a much better way of putting over the point.
But thanks anyway, I stand corrected.
