I think it tells us that the Manufacturer knows best .... messing about with it knackers it - not putting too fine a point on it.
As I have always said ...........

Modified for rallying?
Hardly road going were they? Would knock all your teeth out and be as reliable as a TVR!!
Nah, we all know that the standard car is best for what it was designed for .... the roads, reliability and comfort.
If you want something different - buy the car that does what you want straight from the box - don't take our cars and b4stardize them into chavmobiles that everyone laughs at!!
Keep it standard ............ you know it makes sense

Yes, but they have a team of mechanics who rebuild the engines and gearboxes for fun, not to mention a load of cash and spare parts.

I think that is good advice from Pete, means it has probably been thrashed anyway.
Best to get a standard car and then get the enjoyment of modifying it yourself. Thats what I did with my classic STi.

I don't see an issue with it as long as you are conscious of the fact that ]
1. Some prospective buyers will be put off and you won't get the money back on those mods.
2. Make sure you get sound advice (Andy F, Bob Rawle etc etc) before you do anything.
Do that and you can have a car which is great fun!

Did you thrash it after you mofified it Les? Would it have been a good buy for the next purchaser?

Worth making sure you have it nicely adjusted to avoid a dead cut due to overboosting or pre-ignition as mentioned and all the bits such as a better up pipe, a cat free down pipe with a free flow cat in the rear pipe which still passes the emission test, match up the ports, a Dawes device to control the boost, a knock indicator for safety's sake, not forgetting to get shot of the understeer by eliminating the bumpsteer and fitting solid rear roll bar links to get neutral handling, and you then have a car with outstanding performance which does not require to be "ragged" in any way to achieve it on the road. It is over revving and pre-ignition which are the killers.
Many people will have done all that and got great personal satisfaction from the way their car performs.

he is a trolling *** clown, ignore him.##
Why would you go on a modified car forum and say that if you werent craving for attention in your old folks home, instead of trolling us with sh1te, press the emergency button next to your bed, a nurse will show up sooner or later and give you drugs to keep you quiet, then you might stop posting blatant attempts to give yourself some attention, in other words, stop it pete, your getting really boring now, or has dementia set in and you dont remenber all the sh1te you post?

No I did not thrash it. You can get all the best performance out of a vehicle without thrashing it at all as I am sure you know anyway. With a bit of mechanical sympathy you can get better perfomance without hanging on to a gear until you get to valve bounce or booting it into pre-ignition which really upsets No 3 cylinder of course!

In a lot of cases its proberly safer buying a modified car at least you know what your getting as long as its in good nick, My worry would be some of the so called standard cars which in reality have had the trick bits taken of to look standard and are running on the wrong map

Mods are a personal thing though are'nt they??....if you mod a car its to your own specification. I always buy standard un touched cars, why??...
a). because i will "personalise" them how i want, not how the previous owner wanted.
b). Often like it or not mods do ruin a car, getting them all set up just right is extreamly tough. Perhaps that is why unless you sell to an enthusiast you lose most if not all the money spent on the mods, hence so many modded cars just get broke up for parts....shame really.
