Cameron - The Big Society - sheer genius
I didn't really get the Big Society thing until today, but I must say now that it is a woek of Tory genius.
Firstly you make a huge load of noise about the Big Society and how everyone should be involved in the country's future.
You then keep the definition of what it is exactly deliberately loose so that you can include or exclude things in it at will. Put good things in as a part of it and deny bad things have anything to do wth it if you will.
Then you announce a load of spending cuts in parliament
Then (and here is the clever bit) you say to the local authortieis and orgnisations like the MoD that as part of the Big Society you cannot tell them what to do (even though you have already told them they must make cuts) leaving the public to think it is them cutting the services etc. rather than the government itself.
That is genius!!!

I should think the concept must give Francis Maude (the guy in charge of pushing this) nightmares. A lot of fluff IMHO, a sort of bigger version of some Eton summer holiday project
And there is just no way of avoiding the fact that he is asking for charities to pull out all the stops but starving them of the wherewithal to do this. It doesn't wash blaming the local councils for this.
And the charity sector competing for public service business? What the hell does this mean? Dad's Army putting in a tender to run the local ambulance service or "Man with Van" pricing up for the rubbish collection? It's all bollox.
If he is going to stay at No 10 then he is going to come up with something better - one of the BIG ideas that make a difference like the formation of the NHS, sending Milliband and Clegg into space or, heaven forbid, votes for women

They have just interviewed some bloke on TV, who was going on about their local swimming pool having to close due to lack of funds.
But, fear not, the 'big society worked' as a couple of local millionaires took the pool over and it stayed open. So, the rest of us shouldn't moan and copy this example.....

You lot voted the £Millionaires in ..... so, live with it.
Inherited wealth too - not one proper job between the lot of them!
What's the chances of the Tories giving some of their £Millions to keep open the Care Homes, Libraries and ChildCare that they are destroying?
NONE!!!!
They are beyond decency ......... I DID warn you - it will only get worse!!

I think the sad reality is that Cameron’s view on the Big Society goes little further than congratulating the retired Navel Commodore for giving up a few days a week to run Topper and Laser dinghy racing for kids summer holidaying in Rock, Cornwall
(we are grateful -- but I doubt it is going to address the countries problems)

What's the chances of the shadow Labour ministers giving some of their £Millions to keep open the Care Homes, Libraries and ChildCare that they claim the ConLibs are destroying?
From Guido a couple of months ago at ... http://order-order.com/2010/10/11/sh...-millionaires/ ... and ... http://order-order.com/2010/10/11/mo...naire-members/ ...
(I'll copy it in full to save you the trouble of clicking the links. I know the arthritis must be playing up in this weather especially as those nasty Tory cuts have left you unable to heat Lewis Towers ... ).
"... There are quite a few millionaires around the Shadow Cabinet table, some inherited their money, some made their money. If the politics of envy is back we should look at the net worth of those making the charge. Guido is estimating net worth based on pension assets, property and other known assets.
Millionaire Ed Miliband inherited a share of a multi-million pound property from his Marxist father, some nifty footwork by him and his brother David allowed them to avoid paying six-figure inheritance taxes. Combining marital assets and his inheritance from his father Ralph, Ed himself is comfortably a millionaire.
Millionairess Harriet Harman, privately educated at St Paul’s girls school (Osborne went to St Paul’s boys school) is, given her eighteen year parliamentary career, set to get at least a half a million pounds from her pension pot. Along with her husband’s salary and pension, things are looking comfortable with one house in Herne Hill and a country pile in Suffolk. Putting the trade unionist and the toff well into the millionaire’s class…
Ed ***** and Yvette Cooper trousered a joint household income of some £300,000 per year for their five years or so in goverment positions. Ed trousered nigh on £100,000 in 2005 for writing a few pamphlets for Gordon Brown’s now struck-off dubious charity known as the Smith Institute. With the couple’s triple-house-flipping, generous expenses claims, on top of their ministerial salaries and taking into account their gold-plated ministerial pension pots, they will comfortably have a net worth that puts the power couple in the millionaire’s bracket by now. Though they are however down to a meagre two homes…
But it’s not just the big names at the forefront, Baroness Scotland spent many years at the top of the Bar and the ennobled QC’s bank balance would reflect that. The millionairess will have had no problem paying her five-thousand pound fine for employing an illegal immigrant as a maid…
Baldemort himself, Liam Byrne, benefitted handsomely from his time as an investment banker at Rothchilds. He certainly won’t have left their employ without having trousered enough to put him in the millionaire bracket before counting his six-figure government salary…
Oh and let’s not forget Shaun Woodward whose property empire includes a castle. He even has his own butler.
.....
Further to Guido’s expose this morning of the hypocritical millionaire Shadow Cabinet members, there are a couple more to add to the list. Lowly front-bencher Emily Thornberry, owns a £2 million-plus pile in Islington, and with her husband, Christopher Nugee QC, has an extensive property empire.
Guido rather stupidly forgot teetotal, vegetarian and fourth generation Labour MP, Hilary James Wedgwood Benn. Heir to the family money and owner of a million pound Chiswick house, the ultimate champagne socialist is high up in the ranks of Shadow Cabinet wealth. Somehow Guido doubts this lot are very worried about losing their Child Benefit… ..."
And their previous employment was ......

No it's better for blaming all your mistakes on someone else. What the f**k do the middle classes know about running this country? As long as they have a Range Rover and large plasma TV that is all they care about!!!

Nope. My point is entirely relevant. You reckon the fact that the Tories are millionaires having never had a proper job is a major problem for us. That would explain, then, why the country is in the ****, as the "millionaire Tory ministers who have never had a proper job" took over from the "millionaire Labour ministers who have never had a proper job" .....

Keep your hair on I was only responding to Pete's assertion that current wouldn't give any of their "millions" to keep care homes open.

What annoys me is the devicive & cynical attempt at making us feel guilty for the lack of money to support essential services.
They unleashed (de-regulated) the dogs of greed (bankers).
As to the argument that we ourselves to blame for aquiring too much credit it is the Governments job to make laws to protect the population from it's own worst instincts otherwise I could walk down the road to the chap who owns that nice Mercedes & shoot him & take his car.
I can see them coming up with the idea of the Big Society & slapping each other on the back saying 'the stupid,un-washed plebs will never work it out. They will blame themselves for not doing anything to help.'
I do agree we should do what we can to help each other. What I object to is to a bunch of millionaires(forget about which party is to blame. They are all the same) who will never suffer from these cuts trying to deflect the blame.
Don't forget...THEY STILL THINK WE'RE STUPID.
