Getting an endoscope :(
Least I think that's the correct name ..
Camera down my throat .. I posted about this before and its taken this long to get an appointment with me chasing them ..
Sedation is the way forward .. but to be honest I'm still ****ting my pants ..

By all accounts if you go the sedation route you don't remember much about it
My Dad has had loads and even got to the stage where he was happy to have one without

As posted before, I've had it before and without sedation - it was fine once you get past the firts bit and yes I gag when I get my toothbrush too near the back of my mouth.
Stop talking yourself into a state.
Good luck

My Dad had one of these a few weeks ago, didn't put him out just sprayed the back of his throat with something to numb it a bit. He said it wasn't too bad.
Found he has a growth in his oesophagus, won’t go into any further details as it will just give you something else to think about, although his symptoms are different to yours.
He did have a joke with the nurse, told her he has put a bit of tape over his bum hole so if they knock him out and the seal is broken when he comes round he will know where they have been, lol.
Hope it all turns out ok for you though. Good luck.

I had one with just the throat spray and it was a breeze. But if you're worried then have sedation and get someone to drive you there and back. Good luck. dl

I'm going in for one on 31st May.
Just elected to have the throat spray and no sedation.
Pimmo, can I ask what your symptoms are for the reason you're having the endo?
PM if you like.

I get like attacks, bad pains in my shoulder or across my chest and for a week or so after it aches, doctors reckon Acid, personally I think I have pulled something as it gets worse when I exercise...
If I lift anything heavy or swim or anything using my chest.

I've had one done before. I went for sedation, just made me drowsy but I remembered everything of the procedure. It was uncomfortable but not painful, made me gag quite a bit. All over in a couple of minutes though.
Had a sore throat afterwards but that was it.
You will be fine, don't get too worked up about it. Sounds worse than it really is.

had one a few mths ago and is not nice but wouldn't bother with the sedation as all it means is you can't remember it,can't drive, can't be alone for 24 hours. only last a minute or 2 anyway so just get it done get out get in the scoob and put a smile back on your face good luck

What I will say as a positive is in all honesty it doesn't really hurt.
You'll be fine.

I think I posted in your original thread, Pimmo.
Had it done last year. went with the sedation as I was petrified - even though I hate needles.
After the nurse ballsed up the canula insertion, the Dr did it, then all I remember is them counting down, then me gagging/coughing slightly when they removed the camera, and eating a minging hospital sandwich after!
Leaving the ward I can kind of remember and making my fiance take me to get a KFC as I was starving..but other than that everything is a blur
I'd go with sedation

Fastscoobfella......the fiberoptic nasendoscope is about as thick as a McDonalds straw and that includes the light / camera and guides. I've had one and it's a very simple procedure, get a good person on the other end and it's dead easy
Gastroscopy is a bit different as the instrument is about thumb sized and has attachments to take bits of tissue and travel quite away down......
In a former life I ran a clinic for nervous patients and we used Midazolam sedation and believe me the retrograde amnesia (you forget it) effect is quite strong.
We council caution (nice phrase) regarding amnesia in that if we say that they won't remember it and they do we are liable ........

I like that idea ... my dad is going with me and he's a no BS kinda guy.. will make sure I dont spaz out .. but suggested the sedation too as he had it without and said it was **** ... not painful, but nasty.

I wouldn't and didn't even contemplate taking action about it, as it had to be done, so you accept what happened.
In fairness, I don't know of anyone else who has had sedation for either a colonoscopy or endoscopy that has really remembered the situation, or could say it didn't help, apart from me. Perhaps I am just a medical freak.
