Got to say this kind of cycle riding is becoming comonplace in London now. Yesterday in my van going up Holland Park to Notting Hill I had two incidents on the same journey of cyclists taking stupid risks.
I ride a bike as well but would never take the chances that these guys do, just crazy.

I ride a motorcycle into central London. I've had to emergency stop twice in the past year due to these idiots. Another crashed into me attempting to filter thorough stationary traffic, damaging my mirror

Idiotic, I think its a bit of a city thing, I was filtering in traffic today and I just totally err on the side of caution, got waved through today and a couple of drivers pulled over a bit to let me through, nice of them, guess like me they think why hold someone else up because I cant move, if I am not sure I slow down or stop, the London thing is that everyone is so busy or trying to appear so, its the same on the pavement.
I like London, but no way would I want to live there !

This one was shown on the bike forum I frequent - no good things were said about the idiot on the bike.
However - if you look carefully, you'll see him over to the left with half a front wheel left on his bike.
While I wish no physical harm to anyone, I would say that justice was meted out there.

A few years back I actualy witnessed a moped rider try to go up the inside of an articulated lorry as he was about to turn left, unfortunately the rider didn't make it. Its not something I will ever forget seeing.

What a ****, that's why sensible cyclists get such **** of other road users - as one of the cyclists looking on I'd have helped the 4x4 driver fill him in

Very silly riding IMHO. I hope he takes that as his one and only get out of death free card. You dont have an argument with a bus and live very often. He was lucky the bus driver stopped so quickly. Wonder how many PI claims the bus company got from passengers as a result....

I'm a bus driver in Birmingham & see this kind of thing day in day out, the bus driver will still be pulled in & have to fill out a mass of paperwork (all in his own time) Get abused by the passengers on his bus due to his poor driving & harsh braking (they wouldn't have noticed the bike being squashed) but with a near miss that close will be thankful nobodys dead!

To be fair these cyclists are tossers but they are not ALL cyclists, and motorcyclists are no saints either...always flouting road rules, speeding, and knocking off peoples wing-mirrors etc.

If I'm in traffic close to cyclists I'm always super careful.
Having done a lot of cycling myself and knowing how some act, you have to expect the unexpected and give them more room.
...and the end of the day even if you are in the right it's not going to be nice if you hurt or kill a cyclist.

What a complete bellend. I work in London and drive around it on a daily basis. I have been at the sharp end of a crash with idiotic cyclists. They are a pain to deal with on the roads, completely disregard any road markings, laws etc .
Some are decent cyclists, some are law abiding and some are just plain nuts.
You would never catch me cycling in the city, far too dangerous.
I lump them into the same camp as bendy buses, taxi drivers and ****ing tourists.

Ah, well to answer TDW, yes lots of idiots in cars, but in london even more idiots on cycles, that is common place and its getting worse, so what can be done about it?
As we saw there, mr idiot (even cycling mikey called him an idiot ) saw a gap, didnt see any parked vehicles or other obsticles due to the bus being waaaaaaay bigger than he could see round, saw a gap and went for it.
Unfortunately the gap closed (as it does with alot of larger vehicles, ie HGV's) and he was squashed.
So who is going to pay for the damage to the bus and the 4x4?
Wont be mr cyclist as he wont be insured....
Now that puts us back to cyclists needing to be insured, and then do they need to do a road test under instruction on the roads?
In the next few years we are going to see more and more idiots like that getting killed trying to go on the inside of a HGV going round a corner or getting through small gaps that close, or even because they dont look at the lights, and they are immune to speed cameras/traffic light cameras as they have no licence plate.
Remember that cyclists will always come off worse in an accident, most because they are brain dead and think they are indestructable

But the trouble is that while still in a minority you do see a lot of cyclists riding like this or doing other stupid things. To top that you then get the sanctimonious camera warriors lecturing all and sundry on how eveil car drivers are so it's not hard to see why it becomes such a 'us and them' situation.

I have never yet seen a biker pushing his luck in the way you say, yes sometimes speeding, probably similar to what you do in your car when you are taking it to max revs in all the gears as you said you do!.
I have long experience on bikes as well as cars and I can assure you that all the bikers I know are very careful not to put themselves at risk since they are so vulnerable. The ones that do are not around for very long! Have you ridden a bike?...what do you think is likely to be the consequence of knocking off a wing mirror with the handlebars?
