Default Tissot Watches Any good

I am looking to buy a watch for no more about £300 and recently found out about Tissot.

Are they good I don't want a armandi or gucci watch and can't afford a tag.

Thanks

Personally think that Tissot are a great brand for their (budget) price range.

I have a Tissot V8 as an everyday wearer and it stands up very well, sure, its not an automatic, but then it only cost me £150 (after discounts and quidco)

Tissot arent fantastic any longer, which is a shame. I have a Tissot diver which is now insured against a Longines Hydroconquest, because current Tissot watches are so cheap and nasty.

£3,00 will buy you a very nice used Oris or Longines: both of which are substantially better than most Tissots. The only decent model in their range is a chrono with a Valjoux 7750 movement - this will cost you about £600 at best, though.

The first decent watch that I bought in 1992 was a TAG Heuer 4000 automatic and the Tissot in question is finished to an equal standard: unfortunately that really isn the case with Tissot any longer, as Swatch have re-positioned the brand at entry level and they barely count as 'Swiss' now (legally, that is - theyre far Eastern watches, only fettled in Switzerland)...

To further make my point, the watch Im referring to is worth more used and ten years old, than most Tissots RRP now!

I've had one for six years, cost about 300 quid and it's never missed a beat, can't fault it.

Part of the ETA/swatch group; A conglomerate that manufacturers the workings and stuffs them in a whole load of different brand casings. Their workings are also found in much more expsensive watches, like Paneria, Breitling, Raymond weil etc.

Other brands owned by Swatch include:

Breguet, Blancpain, Glashütte Original, Jaquet Droz, Léon Hatot, Omega, Tiffany & Co., Longines, Rado, Union Glashütte, Tissot, ck watch & jewelry, Balmain, Certina, Mido, Hamilton, Swatch, Flik Flak, Endura and Tourbillon.

Yup you saw that: Omega amongst some other prestigious brands.

So consider Tissot to Swatch to be like Skoda or Seat is to VAG. Similar innnards in different packaging and a cheaper retail price.

Also take a look at Oris and Maurice Lacroix

I like the look of some Tissot(though I too bought a Longines Hydroconquest.....bargain at about £650)

I keep mentioning Christopher Ward on here though.Think his stuff looks great.Swiss watches at bargain price

I would never ever ever put a watch on my wrist that had an association with clothes though or perfume.....just me!! (Gucci,Armani blah blah)

Although an old thread id just like to say the tissot uses the same movements as many tags and brietlings, but youll pay 4 times for these as its the name.

Technically most watches use the same movements tissot use good movements that normally the higher end premium watches use. So although pricewise they dont hold there price as well, techincally the guts are the same.
