Great news, let's hope this doesn't stop those accountable from being brought to justice though.

Let's also hope a new paper does not start up in a few months time

At long last the British press are being held accountable for their actions. Let's hope this sends a message to all the journalistic low lifes that work for the other papers to smarten up their act.

Could we have rid of The Daily Mail too please?

You won't be happy until the only paper left is The Guardian

it was the Guardian that pursued this, prompting Rebekah Wade to write to the press complaints commission accusing the Guardian of "wilfully misleading the public." LOL

Everyone, from the rest of the press to the police to the government would have preferred it to become a forgotten story

so don't knock the Guardian - not perfect, but not scum

Am I missing the point here?

NoTW and the Sun were in direct competition for their own readership more or less anyway.

Doesn't seem like a difficult decision to cull one of the papers and pick up the readership with the other.

Good business sence

That is MASSIVE, NoTW has got to be in the top 2 best selling Sunday rags. Murdoch obviously values his reputation more than a big money spinner.
Quite rightly closing too.

Yes you are, The Sun is published Monday to Saturday, the NoTW was only published on Sundays. So not in competition with each other at all. They'll let the dust settle and then The Sun will suddenly start producing a Sunday edition.

For now good riddance to a scum journalism Sunday paper read by scumbags

Disagree.

For some reason Murdoch would rather keep Rebekah and ditch the paper - what does she have over him?

Secondly, as said, Sunday edition of The Sun on its way.

Finally, readign the BBC report, it seems like they have baically had to admit that they did it to hundreds if not thousands of people and it wasn't just one chap as they told us but they were all at it. Given it seems like anyone involved in a major case through those years could have been hacked and it might well seriously affect some court cases, this looks like a jump before pushed case of appeasement.

Hope it doesn't work.

5t.

It had to happen even the NOTW couldn't come back from something like this.

What makes me wonder is how much deeper does it go, I doubt just the paper was involved and the police payoff but what about the government.........

NOTW was Britains biggest selling paper.

Big blow short term, and a sop to the BSB deal.

Do people really believe that the NOTW is the only UK newspaper that has tapped peoples phones because I don't.

They just thankfully got caught.

They've blocked his BSkyB takeover until September I think.
