Get a cat ?
Thinking about getting a cat ..
Be that a kitten or a slightly older cat .. I've got a GSD, soft as ****, plays with my two children, 6 months and 2 ..
I had a cat when I was little and its basically an animal you can use to teach a kid how to care for something, but if they forget, it wont die
I know a lot of you hate cats, really don't need to hear about that
Any suggestions, recommendation ? people giving kittens away ?

We got our cat from a local animal refuge / sanctuary they had loads to choose from and we went for one which could be picked up, stroked and generally manhandled without getting irritated. It was all checked, vaccinated, wormed, microchipped and "done".
They came round to the house to check beforehand and we got it for a "donation" which was meant to be optional but not really LOL

I got my first two cats as kittens free by word of mouth........Charlie and Mr Christian (Mutiny on the Bounty). Sadly now in kitty heaven
Shame the refuge won't play ball......
Great fellas they were though. I'd start by asking around

Trout,so true....problem with dogs (and I love them) they are as much of a bind as kids.....life over
Must be a local farm with a stack of kittens in a barn or look in local paper.

You just have to be careful for the first few months until the cat learns to play nicely and not use its claws.
I'm not really a cat person, but rescued a kitten that was 'thrown' on the street and it was brilliant -- thought it was a dog. When I would come home it would rush from where-ever it was and roll on its back to have its belly rubbed.
I didn't enjoy finding moles running around the kitchen and the occasional regurgitated frog.

I'm all grown up now but when i was a little'n i cant remember not having a cat. Just get a short haired one. And one that doesn't have white fur.
Advice from a man that STILL to this day has white long cat hairs on his clothes!

Do you live anywhere near Lancashire as Bleakholt Animal Sanctuary inRamsbottom have lots of adult cats for rehoming and I dont think they have a restrictive policy on rehoming with kids?

Pimmo, get one... they are amazing animals and are great for kids. Get a young adult if you can as that way you know what personality you are getting... kittens can be all cute when they are young but as an adult may end up reclusive whereas you want a cat that enjoys being picked up, petted and played with.

In Other news PAWS INN CAT RESCUE • Weaverham has just told me to go else where because I live too far away .. 37 miles
I replied back saying I hope this means they have more homes than cats, as turning someone away for living less than 40 miles away, whilst crying out for help looking after cats is a bit odd ..

lol, meh
there lots of rescues about mate, i'd def recomend insurance and also prob a good idea to get one of these pet plans from the vet that you pay a set figure and it covers all vacinations and in my case a 6month check.
Also you can now get micro chips that take temp as well as hold details so if you do have to get one chipped ask about that, its a few quid more but mean no thermometer up the **** for her/him lol
