Default Selective hearing

Anyone else suffer from this terrible affliction?

I have lately just noticed how bad I am at ignoring what I don't want to hear. Yesterday evening I was really annoyed over an issue and blamed a third party for not telling me something, only for me to sleep on it and wake up going "oh yeah, they did say something about that" and I IGNORED THEM!

I truly am a ****ing muppet a times!

The other 'arf call's it "Selective Deafness". Mainly effects the male of the species and during sustained periods of shopping, quick driving or argueing becomes more pronounced.

I have found it usually involves getting talked at whilst watching something important like football.

I'm awful at it. My wife will finish the sentence and then ask a question, I know somewhere in my head she is talking but I somehow am too focussed on something else (TV) and I ignore it.

I never, ever, ever talk to her when she is on the running machine.

LOL

I'm the opposite of JPL, I'm brilliant at selective hearing!

SWMBO sometimes needs to shout at me sitting next to her before I notice!

Don't complain, it can be really useful at times.

You just have to train it to your full requirements.

The lad opposite me is great at it in work .. I will say something, he looks up to acknowledge I'm speaking, waits for me to finish and then 5 minutes later will just say "what?"

I tried doing it back, but feel too rude lol ...

I do have selective email reading though when I'm busy .. people phone me to chase emails up and I remember them like a dream lol ..
