The swimming pool cost something like £250 million but was supposed to cost like £80 million or something.

It's Hollyrood syndrome. Only governments can get budgets so wrong for building stuff.

My biggest problem with the Olympics is the location. If it was based in the midlands I would be a lot happier, that way the whole of the country would find it easier to get to. Maybe people in Scotland and the north would give a toss then.

Cant feggin stand the olympics and Sebastian Coe.

Same story with the Edinburgh trams now. If it gets cancelled they've basically just p*ssed hundreds of millions of pounds up the wall. How criminal is that!! "oh but figures that large are common for projects of this size", says the head parasite, sorry lady councilor of Edinburgh.

Even if it is finished it's totally pointless anyway. How far would that money have gone in hospitals or to the police?

Lord (FFS) Coe said on BBC news yesterday that there were 12500 people working on the project 20% of whom them local. I would imagine the rest of them are eastern europeans..

I have nothing against the Olympics, I think it does a lot of good to promote harmony in the world.

I do however object to the apparent need for each country to try to better the countries which went before it by spending vast sums of money on opening and closing ceremonies as well as on brand new facilities, many of which will be seriously underused after the event.

We only need respectable venues to hold the events, not the expensive "look at me" edifices which have been constructed.

Yup, less than the 'revised' budget - once they realised the original budget was unrealistic, unworkable and a joke. The original budget agreed in the first place and the budget submitted as part of the bid/tender and signed off by government. The budget then torn up!

Sad really the muppets who put the bid together forgot to factor in the bleedin' obvious - VAT, land prices rises and price rises in such things as steel, building materials, etc - who would have thought...

yeah i kindof agree with that - its not a bad event in itsefl

its just the ludicrous way the peole in charge see fit to waste insanley vast amounts of public money on it , esp so in a time when so so so many people are loosing jobs, facing lifechanging times and most will see absolutley no benfit from it. its effictlvey giving averge joe a lower standard of living.
