Default Sky Plus HD Box

Not on HD but someone at work has a HD box going spare and was thinking would be a good way to replace our iffy old normal plus box and get more capacity, is it just a case of switching one for another and ringing Sky to tell them ?

One small gripe with the HD box when you don't have the HD subscription is that the Sky Anytime becomes pretty useless as 90% of what it records will be in HD and you will be denied viewing access.

Not in my opinion. Cancelling mine soon. It should be free by now.

Never thought of the anytime thing, have really only just started using it, wanted this for the free to air HD, HDMI connection and larger capacity though its not that big at 300 GB with 160 usable, not sure what our existing one is, 80 with 40 usable sounds right.

He sold it for £40 but it came back as they buyer was having unrelated issues with Sky and cant be bothered, so I am going to give him £30, sounds reasonable ?

Personally J4ck0, I would ring up sky and moan at them for a free box and installation as you are going to cancel due to how poorly the sky+ box is performing and just pay the HD subscription for a year then drop it off.

Yes, you will be paying more on the long run but I wouldn't bother with a secondhand HD box unless it was free, they are terribly unreliable.

£30 is about right. I still think it's daft he's selling it after all it didn't cost anything.

You'll have to call sky to marry your card to the new receiver

They obviously haven't got round to changing ours yet then as the spare HD box we put in the bedroom (Sky multiroom) still records the Anytime programmes in HD if they are availiable in HD, but you can't view them. This includes the vast majority of movies on anytime.

However we did get a letter from Sky the other day saying that from sept. the multiroom second box will get upgraded to view HD for free.

After 10 years of hassle free viewing, the hard drive on my sky+ died.
I had some bad customer service from the call centre when I asked them to sync my card with a box that I had to borrow.
Long story short,I threatened to cancel and got a free 1tb hd box as well as a substantial discount on my account.

all new customers get the slimline hd boxes now anyhow, just sold my old one for 60quid
just make sure when you call you dont take the "You need HD Subs to see HD content" pitch if all you want is free HD channels
also worth keeping an eye out on quidco etc,i upgraded to the HD package and got 90quid cash back, so its only costing me 30quid for the year

Swapped it over and it worked fine, didnt have to call Sky.

Missus as usual regards it with extreme suspicion and contempt like anything new I bring into the house, though this time she wasnt too bad I have to say, what is it with women, she was there saying as it isnt as easy to use ! its the same but better, didnt like the picture in picture on the menus so I turned it off, High Definition is a waste of time apparently and looks no different. I tell her that its much higher capacity and she said it would be better if it had less as she watches too much telly anyway so I said ok, will take it back on Monday and she said no its ok.

Women are weird, well mine is, anything new takes ages to convince her, I am there selling a bloody 30 quid Sky box, FFS it just is, I f*cking pay for it now STFU its like cars, she takes ages to get used to them, not driving them just if she doesnt approve she wont drive it or sneers every time its mentioned like its a disliked aquaintence. I have little things I do
like saying "The Fun Police have arrived" which she obviously loves.

The card may be fine now but in a few days it'll stop working , you need to marry the card to the receiver

When you call them say you are a private installer. They wont try and sell you anything and should get it done in half the time.

i managed to get a hd box for £12 from a car boot on sunday as my old sky+ box was on its way out. get some of the hd channels and a nicer epg to use so i can't complain but i won't be paying £10 a month for the other channels, not many extra on there really.
