Default Price rises: this time 60%!!!

My eldest went for two new tyres for the front of his Clio Sport 197. They WERE £69 a side, about a year ago, they are NOW £106 a side. And this for budget tyres.

He asked the dealer to justify the 60% increase or he didn't want them, and, of course, the guy couldn't.

My lad walked away, and is now buying off the net for better tyres for less money. His mat'e garage will fit them etc for £10 extra.

Maybe the tyres he bought were reduced by 40% when he bought them.

£69 a corner for 17inch tyres does seem cheap!

Who in their right mind buys from dealers anyway? its not like you actually get a better quality of the same tyre...

I'd be interested to know what 'better' 17 inch tyres he is getting and how much he is paying?

i've just put a pair of bridgestones on my ford mondeo, 235, 45, 17- so a hefty size tyre.

£131 each. which having shopped around was pretty good. had ford do it too.

100 for a clio tyre, prob right, sounds like a nippy car ?

I asked my garage just to check the tyre pressures and when I questioned his charge he just said "well that's inflation for you"

The cheek of some places

I buy part worn tyres and have done for many years now. You get good tyres for a lot less and there virtually brand new most of the time.

Avon, Toyo, Pirelli for mine (205/35/18) I pay £40-£45 depending on what place has got them in at the time
