SAS Commander who led the Team ..
.... which ended the Iranian Embassy Siege, in 1980, has died.
I remember being glued to the TV screen as the windows were blown out and the SAS swang into action ...... proud moment to be British, a time when we took no ****, when your human rights ended the moment you stepped out of line.
His son died in Afganistan ... if you believe in the afterlife, they will be re-united.
Do you reckon he will swing in through heavens window?

They should have been sent into the Council Estates during the riots

He over cooked the entry charge by about 100% :-)
Them were the days. One of the few who have 'come out' of the reg who I have a lot of respect for. I am sure he blew the hinges off the gates up there with a remmy.

Yeah, I remember it too. It was so exciting being a kid and watching that live on TV!
Remarkable operation and something for us Brits to be proud of. Didn't go entirely to plan but they had enough options to get over the fact that one unfortunate trooper was almost toasted as he hung from his abseil rope!
Can't imagine anything similar happening now - there would be too much hand wringing about the rights of the terrorists! Would imagine the police would carry out such an operation now if it was on the UK mainland.
Anyway, RIP Mac - great job!

“Who Dares Wins” is the famous motto of the SAS Regiment, it was a way of life for Sergeant McAleese.
RIP Sapper McAleese - God Bless Sir.

I wondered if it was this fellow, on reading that his son had died in 'Stan. Im sad to hear about this (having seen many talking head programs to which he contributed), as I was to hear about his son too.
Im sure he got in before the Devil knew that he was dead

Ppft, the devil wouldn't let him in anyways, a trained agent of destruction, combined with th fundamental good guy nature would have precluded him.
There was only one place this guy was going and it weren't downstaxirs.
Astraboy.

In the Iranian Ebassy seige we went in and shot the hostage takers, no messing, job done.
Whereas in Stanstead a large proportion of those on the hijacked Afghan airliner - hostages and hostage-takers - claimed asylum in the UK and are still loving here today paid for by us.
Can you imagine if it happened now with Cameron and Clegg at the helm. God help us!

If there is such a window, he will certainly follow his son through it.
We owe a debt to people of his character.
