I wonder if the O'Donnells are 'coloured*' people?
For what it's worth, my 5 year old son has a Golliwog in his bedroom....
*am I allowed to say that in these PC times?

"History of difficulties" ... we don't know the entire story. Maybe she went off on one at the cops when they arrived and said something she shouldn't have.
It's a bit odd that one would display a childs toy in the window.

one would assume the situation was that the neighbours asked for it to be removed from the window and she refused.
the BBC find the term offensive, so i guess it's not a great stretch for the doll to also be offensive.

The Independent has also removed the picture of her house - it's massive. The neighbours would need a telescope to see in through the windows.
CPS always ready to target the "easy" cases.
How many prosecutions do they bring against gypsies?

I wondered that myself, as you do get multi racial dolls in other forms
however, what constitutes as offensive ranges from the objective to the subjective. just because you find something inoffensive, does that nullify the feelings of someone else ?
i would have taken the doll out of view and apologised. life's too short and i don't have the spare time to go to court to defend my principles.

But strangely, not this...

Worth going to court over? Maybe not, but I would not want to have anything to do with the kind of people who'd go to that extent over something so trivial.
If something like this hurts their feelings, they can't have much to worry about!

More pictures and a map here ... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/arti...lack-wife.html ... Also a panel explaining where the name came from (and can't be ar5ed to look up if that's actually true or now) and that also implies that people offended by them should just STFU and get a life!

Was she watching this on a 50" plasma visible from the road?

Joking aside and assuming the neighbours are black, its hard to believe her actions were not deliberate given a history of difficulties.

"She does not accept that she acted in a racial manner. It is a large house and she lives there with other members of her family and there is a grandson who is 16 months old. She was tidying up the toys."

I have one pretty much the same, we gave him a name, but I dare not speak of him.
He's a bit of an antique, and is now in the loft, where he is safe.
Nobody we know was ever offended, but then I wouldn't display it in our living room window, as I know somebody would be sensetuve enough to get their knickers in a twist over it.

I suppose you have to turn the whole business around to get a true aspect of the situation.
If you were in an African or West Indian country, would anyone as a white person be offended by seeing a white doll in someone's window even if it represented a disreputable looking tramp.
I wonder what reason was given for the possibility of the golliwog actually being offensive by the complainant. It has been a children's traditional doll for years and years back. It is not as if a golliwog has an offensive or unpleasant appearance in any way. It was a doll to be loved by children. Quite ridiculous for the PC Plonkers to start making a fuss about it.
The Black and White minstrel show was very good to see and in fact did a lot to promote black people in this country since the performances and songs were pleasantly entertaining.

Are we all really that stupid on this forum to think that this was not a deliberate attempt to offend the "black" neighbours with whom they have a" history of difficulties".
Now i have no problems with golliwog dolls, but the black and white minstrel type depiction of black people was shall we just for the purpose of discussion settle for the term "less than flattering" and did nothing for black people other than make them appear stupid.
And while i have no time for pc bull crap i can see how the neighbours might take offence and want to teach them a lesson for trying to be smart *****.
Oh and i don't care what people call me i'm old school and i can usually throw insults and or punches with the best of them.
Names are just words and i have no problem calling a spade a spade, wog or nig nog as jim davidson and many other very funny comics of that time used to, and me and my father ( who was black fyi) used to cry with laughter at this stuff, and we never missed an episode of love thy neighbour or rising damp.
