Anybody got one? used one?, Selling One?, Anybody recommend one?? been looking at the SIP ones and Clarke ones..

Currently got a Clarke 230A Industrial Mig welder but think I could do with a tig as well Do these still need helium in argon as a gas?

yeah I did but it just doesnt work... Seems like theres no control... just floats around where it wants to.. and regardless of how i set my wire speed and current I just cant get it right...

Only thing is the invertors i have seen dont mention ally.. next model up is three phase..

I should be going to look at them today so will post details.

David, you don't need three phase for ally, but you do need AC, hence the inverter, don't go for the Clarke they are good, but for the sort of work that you seem to be doing you will be better of with the SIP unit any day. We have a little 240V one at work, when I get in on monday I'll post its details.

BTW yes you do need Argon gas, but it,s not that dear through BOC.
you will find that once you have got used to a TIG unit you will never use the MIG again, it's like getting out of a Transit and into a Ferrari, they both do the same job but one is so much nicer to use.

had a feeling a may be able to replace the mig... dont worry was considering using argon in helium for heat.. was using just argon.. for mig I use helishield.... argon / co2...

i think been a while since i needed a bottle...

christmas...

let me know your details.. the sip unit I was looking at had slope time ramp up / down gas delay and all other controls and looked pretty good..

We have just got a new CeBora 160amp Tig AC/DC inverter because our old one fell of the side of my rally car that i was working on and was beyond economical repair so our insurance company told us they would supply us with a new one £1700+vat

It's the dogs nut though

Huxley

Ps. as said before you will need an AC/DC pack to do alli and stainless don't go for a cheap one if you can.

Got it from Cassell Welding Ltd, Berks - 01189 425812.

The price I gave was a rough guess after a phone quote for loads of bits, but it actually worked out at £1975 +VAT for the full kit.
