Senna - the movie - extended version
For anyone interested in a good doucmentary on not just one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time, but an icon, a sportsman and a somewhat complex human being then I can recommend again the new DVD of Senna.
The extended version is even more engrossing than the theatrical version and I promise that even if you don't like F1 you will be gripped by the story of the legendary Brazilian which is why I have posted this here.
It is a very human story and while it obviously focuses on his F1 career F1 is not pivotal to what the film is about.
Give it a go, you won't be disappointed.

Part of the appeal of the film at the cinema was the feeling of speed given by the huge screen. The DVD cannot replicate that so it is interesting to hear that extra footage has been added.

Pontificating
His attitude was typically Brazilian, being married to a Brazilian at the time I could equate to it, it was one of those afternoons i'll never forget, my ex wife was in pieces Senna was bigger than the Pope in Brazil at the time. Her father sent over 4 video tapes of the entire footage of his funeral, similar to Diana's in the respect of the mass out pouring of grief but x 10.
Really looking forward to seeing this as I never had the opportunity when it was at the pictures.

Yes thats true enough. I was very suspicious of the reason for the crash at the time of course. It was a tragedy.

I started watching F1 in 1976, but the 1980-1998 era will always be my favourite. Villeneuve (Gilles), Lauda, Prost, Piquet, Senna, Mansell and early Schumacher..... all legends of the sport.
By today's standards with the stupid stewards investigating every contact none of them would ever have won a championship LOL! Safety aside F1 was better in those days!

I think Ballestre was finally shown up for the nasty piece of work we always knew he was... the section in the drivers' briefing where he basically calls the drivers' opinions worthless was priceless. The look on Mansell's face LOL!
It is a long time since I saw the theatrical version so maybe that was less balanced to be fair.

Balestre makes bernie ecclestone look like bambi, I was to young to have been watching and genuinely be called a fan back then, but I've been In to f1 for prob 20 years or so now, and love it, there won't ever be another like senna, my favourite quote of the theatrical version of the film from senna was " if you stop going for the gap, you are no longer a racing driver" sums Prost up a treat, didn't think Prost came across very well at all in the film, but strangely I thought max Moseley came across very well!!!
