Maine Coon
Does anyone have one as a pet? The farm down the road has some kittens for sale and I'm considering surprising the missus - a Bagpuss scampering around our pile would be nice, I think.

lol, there cats so fine as pets, just be aware main coons can grow big, very big.
dont forget to budget for pet insurance, cat food, cat litter, vets bills (join a vets health care plan which include all vacinations etc and discount on other buills).
As far as food, cheap stuff is just that, so wouldn;t advise going for the like of go cat felix etc, we feed our pain in the **** toplife from asda, very good content food and works out about £1.20 a day. For a 4 kg cat you need 1 pack a day, coons have grown upto 12kg which will make a huge difference to the food bill

had a gf who had one.
fookin enormous pile of fur. that clad everything in fur it touched.
thick as ****.
a fortune in vets bills and special food.
didn't get it myself- waste of time money etc.
a car ran it over: it was too dense to understand the road and traffic.
rather have a normal heinz 59 cat if you really want a pet.

Great cats, but are quite dim and could see why one would get knocked over, quite likely to fall asleep in the road, I would only have one as a house pet unless you are on a farm.

We have one as a pet and I can only re-iterate what has already been said. Big and dim!! We have a baby gate between the living room and kitchen and we regularly come home to find him stuck between the bars...asleep!! He forgets that he hasn't fitted through the bars since he was a kitten (he is now five), and gets himself stuck. He never struggles, he just lays down and sleeps it off until we rescue him.
He also eats everything, and i mean EVERYTHING!!!
For the amusement factor, he can't be beaten.

The boy likes to eat as many biscuits as he can and the sick them all back up in unusual places (on top of the fridge and the like).
Oh and Maine coons have a thing for water, ours like to paw all the water onto the floor before drinking or better still just sit in the bath drinking from the taps!!!

Forgot to say that about food, one of mine likes Asda pizza with jalapeños and the other has a thing for Singapore fried rice and all like prawn crackers and popadoms.

To be honest not knowing a lot about cats thought these Maine coon,Bengal snow leopard and a Bengal leopard being mentioned were going to be scary looking things the size off a labrador etc, sorry but the one in the picture above looks like your normal everday cat, are they really big, if so how big ??!!
must admitt funny as a dog lover can honestly say there are very few dogs I am scared off but the thought off being attacked by a cat fills me with real fear !! have to look away when you see the vet programmes and the cat acting up on the vets table !!!!!!!

They're very noisy - meoow if you move !
Watch some simon's cat - I'm sure Simon's cat is based on a Maine Coon.
He's just about 10 kg !
