Virgin TiVo, adding a magic eye in kitchen
Gentlemen
Switching from SkyHD to TiVo next week and already have a magic eye in the kitchen, which worked with the SkyHD. So all cabling is in place.
I notice the outputs on the TiVo DON'T include an RF/OUT
Question #1
Will the Magic Eye work with Virgin, assuming I have the right equipment?
Question #2
Assuming it will work, what equipment do I need?

If my experience with Tivo is like anyone elses... I have trouble getting the remote to work even with it directly infron of the box!!
With the V+ box I could bounce the signal off the walls.
I would do some googling if I were you.

Magic Eye is simply and IR receiver that sends the IR info down an RF cable - it has no concept of Sky or TiVo so should deffo work. Just wondering what I need at the TiVo end ?

To get the Magic Eye to transmit the IR signal back to the source over the coax, you'd add an RF active adapter that will supply any power you need to the line.
To get the IR signal from the RF active adapter into the Virgin box, which someone stated doesn't have the requisite RF socket (Sky box does), I'm guessing there's an IR transmitter that can blast the IR signal to the IR receiver on the box.

I did, its a simple question and it may also lead to answer your question. I'll put it simply as Ant has also said a conventional Magic Eye will not work.

I think you jumped the gun again, when you said:
"A conventional Magic Eye will not work"
perhaps to help others reading this thread for advice you should say
"A conventional Magic Eye will not work, without additional equipment"

want to know if my existing Magic Eye can change channel from TV (kitchen) to TiVo ( living room), using TiVo remote ?
I think it's possible, assuming the TiVo remote uses the normal frequency range. Just wondered if people have already done it and what equipment they used.

Do you know if the TiVo remote will register with the eye ?

NO!!! FFS
MAGIC EYE'S ONLY WORK WITH SKY BOXES, IT SENDS THE IR SIGNAL DOWN THE CABLE TO THE SKY BOX THEN IT CHANGES CHANNEL.
YOUR BOX DOESN'T HAVE
A)RF INPUT/OUTPUT
B)SKY LOGO ON THE FRONT

As Ant has said, a sky magic eye wont work with anything other than a skybox with an power enabled RF2 connection. Feel free to flog it to death in an attempt to get it to work, but it wont.
HDMI splitter, extended hdmi cable and powermid wireless sender is the normal way, or pay £10 extra a month and get a 2nd box.
10 years doing tv/sky/virgin, run my own business etc.

If you're referring to the post where you mentioned an "RF active adaptor", then maybe you'd like to elaborate on exactly what you mean by that, and whether you actually have one yet. Otherwise, you will need a source of DC power to your Magic eye, or it ain't gonna do zip.

"Magic Eyes Only Work With Sky Boxes"
A Magic Eye is an IR receiver and doesn't care if its a Sky box or not.
"Your box doesn't have an RF I/O"
Correct, so we think laterailly and ask how can we get around this. The answer to to transmit the IR signal to the TiVo's IR receiver
I don't mean to be condescending here, and I'm not trying to to tell you your job but I'm pretty sure a Magic Eye can work with a Tivo, *given the right equipment* and assuming the TiVo remote uses a regular freqiency.

NO IT CAN'T !!
don't wanna be harsh but you don't have a clue.
as for magic eyes, yes they are designed only for sky boxes and nothing else what part of that is difficult to understand?

I'll be home soon. I'll research it on the net and prove it's doable.
