Default Anyone seen the new look HMV.

Horrible, its obvious they are struggling. I miss the old record shops, with the token punk behind the counter, flipping through album covers, asking them to play one while you browse. The secondhand section, and the Japanese imports. Last months chart singles at 50p, gatefold sleeves, and reading the lyrics as you listen.

Sad.

I stopped going in to the one in Belfast centre after it decided it wasn't really a music shop anymore and just seemed to advertise cheap DVDs.

I used to love Rival Records in Plymouth, it must have closed in the mid nineties replaced by some Pine shop.

HMV in Nottingham when it was in the Broad Marsh Centre used to have a great punk section. Every Saturday a few friends and i used to go to Nottingham purely to trawl the record shops. HMV, Revolver, Selectadisc etc. Almost my entire punk collection came from these shops

Revolver closed down as did Selectadisc HMV is still there but what a horrid place it is now with almost no dedication to independent music or any music come to think of it LOL.

If you think that's bad, check out your nearest Blockbuster. There must be a CIA front funding it or something as I've not seen anyone go in my local one for the past 5 years.

The day that itunes becomes the number one music meduim will be a sad day indeed.

Would Dark side of the Moon be the same without the album cover.
Would Abbey road be a tourist attraction if it was only a download.

Remember the original Wayahead Records in Hurts Yard?

I knew the guy who worked there and used to be first to get the new releases.
Fondly remember getting AC/DC's For Those About To
Rock (iirc, gatefold) befor all my mates did

My old player's in the loft - might just dig it out to amuse the kids..

iTunes is dreadful, vinyl or CD for me. They even add more distortion and bass boost to bad quality mp3's to certain tracks. Metalica was one example of this.
