London hotels / areas
Planning another trip to London and whilst I've been once before recently, I still don,t know the place well.
Where is the best area to stay .... Would like to be near some bars on the evening and west end for the theatre.
Any recommendations?
Thanks

Budget?
If you are going to London prices are VERY elastic. Always best to book well in advance.
If you go at the weekend an average room price can be £80-100 and yet another busy weekend with events can be £300-500!!
I usually stay in a Shaftesbury Hotel near Hyde Park/Paddington - easy cab/tube to the thick of it all. Go for a club room if you can get it, Park Grand is best, single and ordinary rooms can be very small.
Trendy West End is Cumberland - but it can be noisy.
There is a huge hotel stock in London - but many are gruesome and well past their sell by dates.
More city oriented is Marlin Apartments - get a proper apartment for the price of a hotel room.
Holborn you can get a decent accommodation at the City Grange Holborn.
I also like NH hotels - but they are out West - they do some good weekend deals.

Thanks Trout,
Budget is circa £500 for the night.
I'll check out your suggestions. My problem is I'm clueless on location. We had a night there a few months ago, but using the tube quite a bit meant that we got sense orientation or distance between places.
Thanks again for taking the time to help.
