Yeah, blame the bankers

Ant with respect why don't you actually find out what's going on in the world instead of continually harping on about something you only know as much as The Sun tells you? Hmm?

Indeed why just blame the bankers.

In fact it's always someone else's fault: -

Pikeys
Eurocrats
Immigrants
Benefit claimants
Bankers
Foreigners
Politicians
Police
Labour
Conservatives
Unions
Oil companies
Muslims
Journalists
TV
Social workers
Doctors
Nurses

I could go on.

Best place to start is in the mirror. Whatever happened to personal responsibility?

Tel,

have you watched the RBS program yet on iPlayer.

I know it is biased but Fred the Shred doens't come out of it well, neither does his boss McKillop who looks like a glove puppet.

I haven't, Trout, no. In all fairness i think Fred Goodwin typifies all that was wrong with banking, i've not read much which endears me to the man.

I thought you said the Conservatives were hard hearted.

Your description above is more accurately pinned to your heroes, as from the beginning of their time in office!

I've had one 2.8% increase in the last 3 years. We do get around an 8-10% yearly bonus plus a few hundred quid at Christmas.
Pay review happening in the next week, so fingers crossed they will see that a 3% increase in salary when cost of living has risen by over 10% is not really fair.
Especially when the company are still making healthy profits.

Then again, I am grateful for having a job!

My pay increase over the last 3 years has been 0%
My Bonus over the last 3 years has been £0.

My savings are eaning nothing, and inflation means they are worth less than what I put in.

The money left over every month after all the bills have been paid is getting less and less.

Have the actually said this will happen?

Yesterday they said nothing had been decided, but was unlikely to happen.

a more accurate point of view is:

£18 billion current spend on housing benefit: having risen from £10 billion in 2000.

all under new labour.

google universal credit and welfare reform. there are about to be some massive crack downs on the benefit dependant.

Oh- I should quantify this with :

what do you think current Police and anti-terrorism spending is?

thats right £9 billion.

its even less on health, education etc.

If, and its a big if, benefits are the minimum that are required to live, then they have to change in line with inflation or they would become less than the minimum required to live, which is not good.

problem is you can get so much on benefit, its an unfair set up. it'll change to a cap of £500 a week, from which everything has to come:

rent, council tax, child benefit, disability, income support etc etc.

i.e the notion that it should not pay you not to work

Yes, under the previous money-no-object Labour government the would have got 5.6% (RPI instead of CPI).

Short memory?

I must be honest, I have no idea how the benefits system works. You read in the papers about folks getting 30k a year, never working and living in fancy houses.
I know of two people who are really struggling. One, her husband has severe depression, so bad they took him into hospital for a month. The most she can get for herself and her child and him, is £62 job seekers. How the hell can he get job seekers, when he is incapable of working due to his illness
How come they are getting no help, other than that. And they are busy assessing him, to make sure he is entitled to it. I am totally lost by it all.
Seems to me, some folks know how to play the system and some folks don't. She has got herself a part time job mobile hairdressing, to help out, but I bet that will only reduce the £62 to nothing.

I'll be out of work from 19th November. Have paid into the pot for most of my working life. Had 8 months out 6 years ago which I covered with Income loss insurance.

Got 2 mortgages and associated bills.

Wonder if I'll get any help?
