I suspect its a deal for everyone. I added the SkyHD pack last christmas as they gave it to me for free for a few months and never bothered to turn it back off as I actually got the benefit from it.....although I didn't think its was actually worth the money but I'd just kick myself missing some of the documentaries and scifi on HD with DD sound.
Just to show what a **** I am and how Karma is a killer. My Monitor Audio RS-W12 Subwoofer kicked the bucket thismorning.

Doubt it, it seems very legit. Apparently Sky have been bought over and all I have to do is set up a new Direct Debit with the Bank Of Nigeria and an intial deposit of £145.50 that luckily I had tucked away after cancelling some useless service.

I've been planning to call Sky and squeeze a new HD box out of them. Missed the free swap earlier this year and ours is just pants. I've replaced the power board and it's got a 500GB sammy HD but it's slow and some HD channels break up randomly which needs a reset. Also, it seems to choose when it wants to record rather than when we want it too. The amount of Failed recordings is such a pi55 take.

Just spent 25 mins on the phone and went through the cancellations and they wouldn't even give me a normal one for free and that was with "Or I'll cancel" to which it was "OK, from now?"
Its playing up anyway so go an engineer coming Saturday - if he decides its faulty he will replace with new style refurb. Although not the 1TB job.
Thinking about it I'm quite tempted to cancel Sky just to see if I can manage without. Don't have any other option though, no fibre here.
Kind of suprised I couldn't get any movement out of them (other than free call out which isn't exactly much of a good will gesture IMO)

I threatened to cancel mine a couple of months ago, and got everything half price and free internet for 6 months - the guy was sound, he even said give me a call in 4 months and we will sort it out again for another 6 months half price!

Bit more info here: it is a time limited offer and not to 'all & sundry'

I noticed on Sky's website they have rearranged their pricing structure and its pretty awful. If you want say, the entertainment pack and Documentary pack it used to be around £18 but it seems that don't have the choice of individual packs anymore. Instead they have the entertainment back for £20 and then Entertainment plus for an extra £5 which gives you everything else bar movies and sport. Pretty shoddy to be honest.

I noticed that a few months back. I just wanted a price of the basic package as a friend asked.
Gave up after 15 minutes and told him to ring them.
I really, really wish we had Cable in our area. Had enough of Sky now.
I do agree that the picture quality is really good in HD and if you watch a lot of Discovery channel, it is worth it. The only thing I watch on Discovery is Wheeler Dealers and I really don't want to see anymore of Mike Brewer than I do already!

Considering the alternatives to Sky, I just don't think there is one.
Standard Freeview/sat is pretty poor viewing, infact i'd say I hardly ever watch any of the standard "free" channels as well as that I've yet to use a Virgin STB* that isn't terrible to use and the picture always looks shoddy compared to Sky, they really to have a strong monopoly.
*I haven't tried the new Tivo.

£43 - some package or other plus HD plus multiroom.
IMO, more than enough for a free HD box - the swines.
Seriously, if I don't get a replacement box I will cancel and stuff the consquences. Wife and nipper will have to put up with Freeview. I pretty much only watch non-freeview stuff Atlantic and FX but its the principle of it all. I'll just have to find something more interesting to do with my £43.
