Arrgghh - Blocked Sinuses
Anybody got any fast cures, feels like my head is going to explode
Had a hot shower this morning and the steam seemed to help, followed it up with a Lemsip / Ibuprofen cocktail that gave slight relief. Been to the pub for lunch and beer also had a short term effect, only one pint though
It's back as bad as ever now, had a couple of Ibuprofen again so hopefully they do something this time.
Wouldn't be so bad if I could go and have a lie down but driving to Essex tonight instead (180 miles) to see my parents.

Get yourself over to the manflu thread on here. This is looking to be more serious than we imagined. The lack of response from the authorities to this critical illness is woeful.

Nurofen Cold and Flu is very good - make sure that whatever you take has pseudephredine in it - very good for clearing the nose/sinus.
Also if your nose is blocked I use Sudafed Nasal spray - works in a couple of minutes - genius.*
* I am not Conrad Murray - if you die - its your fault

This is a horrible bug thing going round. Do you also feel generally crap? i was off work with it and am never normally off. Best thing is Sinutab tablets and you can get them in non drowsy. Ibuprofen will only help the feeling rough bit. Shame the beer didn't work!

Hmm sounds like stopping somewhere on the way home from work to get some over the counter remedies is the best bet.
Never been too sure about the nasal spay type things i.e. Sinex, Sudafed, etc. For me they seem to do the job in the short term but ultimately make things worse

Get some decongestant tablets - they will thin the mucus and hopefully unblock the sinus. The other thing worth trying is a saltwater nasal spray. Some people find this useful, but it never really helped me.
I suffered with this for years, a combination of narrower than normal sinus ostia (the connections between the nose and the sinuses) and allergies meant they frequently got blocked and infected. I ended up having an operation to widen my ostia, not pleasant but has done the trick.

Otrivine - its a sinus spray that you sniff...... I use it all the time when I have hayfever.
It literally works in seconds - you can feel all the sinus pressure crackling & bubbling & receding away inside your face - its IS the schnizzle - ****s with your sinuses after a few days of use tho.... know how Daniella Westwood felt like now!

Coffin Dodger ...... I have had this and there is only one sure, quick, solution.
Stick your head in the toilet, make sure your nose is under the water/pee mix - stay there for 30 minutes while holding your mouth closed.

I would use a towel, not a hankie
Other than that, yes. Boiling water with some menthol or eucalyptus (essential oils) towel over the head and breath it in.
Make sure you don't put your snout in the water, that would hurt
If it doesn't clear, you need to see the Quack. If it turns out to be Sinusitis, that is vile and will probably need antibiotics.

I used to suffer it when I was flying which is bad news.
I found all the remedies above helpful and also those Vick inhalers give you a bit of a blast which will eventually relieve the pain.

See if you can get hydrasense nasal spray. It does not contain any addictive items in it, think it's cleansed salt water. I was sceptical of stuff like that, plus didn't like the thought of spraying water up my hooter, but it does actually work and doesn't feel like you're spraying Niagara Falls up your nose.
You can use it as frequently as you like too.

Get some Sterimar Salt water spray (from chemist). Or snort some salt water. I find the decongestant tablets/sprays just make it worse. Acupuncture has been the best thing I've ever had for it.
