Hi all i am looking for some ideas where i can take the wife (and only the wife no kids) away for a nice romantic weekend as this past year has been pretty tough on us and would be great just to have some alone time together.
I have been thinking about Paris or somewhere similar, it would be great to receive some feedback from any of you that have done the same and had a nice w/end away with information of what the place was like? was it easy to get too? was the food good? that sorta thing.
I am also considering taking a flight to somewhere further afield just as long as not too far to spoil a Friday afternoon / Monday morning weekend away as i live near to Manston airport but then again Manston do not as of yet cover many destinations but Gatwick is not a million miles away either.
Any help would be appreciated

Went to paris years ago on the ferry and coach trip very expensive but very romantic, food was excellent lobster if i remember correctly i chose it when i walked in the restaurant .
Very romantic place walking around the sites moulin rouge,river sein ,nottradamn etc

That was my 1st choice of places to go tbh only downside im thinking of going to Paris is the time on traveling, would it interfere too much with the weekend? and having to put up with the french driving on the wrong side of the road would we get down there in the romantic mood that we would be hoping for?

I wouldn't worry about the wrong side of the road in Paris its the Arc d'triomphe that will catch you out take a taxi and just stand for 5 mins to watch the bumps the wife will love it

I have just had a look at Eurostar at their travel and hotel deals to Paris, i will say i am very tempted and for a 4 star plus hotel break from friday till sunday is only £600 odd looks like a sure winner. I guess im gonna have to try and remember all them french words i learnt in school now then..... what was f**k off in french again?
May look for other places but Paris is seeming to stand out more then anywhere else at the moment tho.

have a look at prague, I know a bit further (2 hours flight), decent food/drink prices just of the tourist trails, just did 4 days there between xmas/newyear.

If you're on a budget like I was, Blackpool

...Took my girlfriend there for her birthday weekend, went blackpool tower, beach, pleasure park, decent food in the resturants, amazing night life on the saturday, cheap drinks; not exactly "romantic" though but hey, you make the most out of it and we had a fantastic time!

If you considered staying in the UK, Pembrokeshire is a lovely place to go for a weekend - April/May if you get good weather would be best - summer holidays make the tourist areas a PITA.

Beaches are nice and clean, some excellent restaurants - Plantaganet in Tenby is excellent if a little expensive. The Bar in Neyland isn't the prettiest of places but can be nice when then suns out and I've never once had a bad meal there and ate there almost every Sunday for a long time.

Druidstone Hotel would be cool if you like things eclectic - bit hippy-ish but lovely location.

Might not have a Kudos of Paris but I'd be surprised if you both didn't enjoy it.

Paris /Eurostar - do not drive! Eurostar = quick/ easy/ champagne on the way over for the missus and arrival right into the heart of Paris.

Driving = 3.5 hours from Dover to outskirts of Paris and the 3.5 hours into the centre... Paris traffic makes London look like a walk in the park.

Prague is nice too - often called the Paris of the east and is a lot smaller so you can walk everywhere. Great restaurant called Kampa Park on Kampa island below the castle. Very pretty in the snow.

I took my wife to Rome about 10 years ago for her birthday. It was Mid January which ment that there were few crowds but we still had decent weather (it was sunny and could almost get away without a jacket). It's going to take longer to get there of course, but for myself, who's always been interested in the Roman Empire, it was a real treat.

We took a bottle of bubbly in our car's cooler to drink on arrival, we are cheap that way
