All depends on how fashion concious they are tbh. Do 10yr olds think of phones like we thought of trainers 20years back? If not the cheapest most sensible phone going. Otherwise, something expensive to stop her throwing it at you in disgust.

My 9 year old daughter was incredibly appreciative of me giving her my old Nokia semi-brick size old phone.
She can't phone anyone on it mind, no signal where we live.....

Orange San Francisco or Monte Carlo for about £100 on PAYG.
Then get it unlocked and use Giffgaff as service provider.
Reasonable android phones with camera, media playback, internet, etc.

Christ how much pocket money do 10year olds get now a days to run a PAYG phone?
Id look at something pretty smart but second hand if she wouldnt mind. Guess it depends what you want to spend but £100+ is alot on a kids birthday IMO.

In reallity none, its not recommended for someone of that age to use mobile phones, but if you must then something cheap that makes calls, thats all you need.

Looks more than adequate.
Problem is anything more than that will cost you a fortune because networks/manufacturers dont like supplying phones for PAYG.

I actually agree too, I personally believe things like facebook and mobile phones have contributed to the ruin of todays society and morals of things like relationships. Everything has been made too easy for lives to be ruined, not just ruined but done so in the public eye....
That said, it seems its the way of the world now and its something that you either accept or live in the dark ages.

It's under a tenner ( no big deal if she loses it or breaks it )
It's pink
No Internet
Has an fm radio ( I bet she'll use this more than the phone!)
Easy to use
Tough clam design

I'd try and find out what her friends have .. if you've got to go down that route you don't want to make her "look" bad, especially being she's a young girl. (She'll never forgive you)
I remember getting a coat hand me down when I was ten, it was great, lovely and warm with loads of pockets, the kids at school destroyed me over it .. I refused to wear it again ..

Got my daughter an Orange Miami (touchscreen) thing to start off with.
Lasted about a year until she had an iPhone 3gs. Apparently, this or a Blackberry would have been acceptable, as that's what all of her friends have.
go figure.

Out Of 5 girls in my daughters class, 4 of them have either a Blackberry or iPhone.
Those same 4 also have a TV and computer in their bedrooms.
No way is my daughter having any of the above at such a young age.
